cool thanks for all the info. I like the regs better than SP which everyone carries but since I have to buy for two will be getting the Z1's unless I see the higher end ones on Ebay.

As to the bomb that troll-monger LUBOLD8431 dropped (and then went silent) I'd like to hear your side of the story - what is your deal, man? You're the same guy that started that worthless Piston v. Diaphragm thread that, in about 2 seconds, turned into Calvin peeing on things. Lately your takes aren't fresh and your posts are pretty weak...shake yourself. You're better than that.

Whats your deal man??? Whats with calling me a Troll monger??? (by the way, what is that???). Secondly, I was goin to say exactly what you just said, before I could get back to the board. They are expensive, and the company expects alot from a dealer. But anyways, you hit it on the head.

As far as the d vs. p thread I started... SOMEONE HIJACKED IT ON ME AND MADE IT INTO CALVIN PEEING ON EVERYTHING.... That got out of hand, and there is nothing i could do about that...

As far as letting you down on my most recent posts, I will try to redeem myself in the coming week... Keep reading, let me know how I do...

is one of the VERY FEW companies that has decided they don't want the petitions from divers who think that price-fixing sucks.

Dean Garassa, in particular, the owner, has faxed me back asking me to stop sending them.

I have, and when you sign the petition now it gives you his phone number instead and 'splains that he's intentionally ignoring customers and potential customers - and that you might want to call him if you're unhappy about that.

Arrogance is not a good trait when you're a seller of products, in my worldview.

But what do I know.

I've pretty much ignored the Divers Union stuff. But now you have me curious. I;ve spent the better part of the last 25 years in and around retail - from the manufacturer's side and the retailers side. As a salesperson and VP for both, to just being a saavy consumer.

I'm confident volumes have been written here about the pricing issues you seem to be championing. I'd like you to direct me to some concise, intellegent discussion about this (I really don't want to dive in to it in this thread.)

Manufacturers have the obligation to protect their brand - and pricing has a lot to do with brand perception. A lot. I'd be curious to read both sides. There are a lot of smart people here, and I'm sure there is some place you can direct me so I just don't get page after page of "Halcyon fixes prices" and "ScubaPro won't sell on line" whines...

Thanks -

Ken

It is definitely a case of projecting a certain type of image. Atomic wants to maintain a premium image and that is evident by their pricing. This is a common practice among manufacturers. I came name probably a dozen or so that I deal with everday that. The perfect example is Oakley sunglasses. There is a 100% markup on those as mandated by the manufacturer. If you do not mark them up 100% then you do not sell their product.
