These markings have been used for decades and there were no issues with the way they are done over these decades. You are trying to make an issue out of a totally non-issue.

Luxfer have said any laser markings on a tank makes it unsuitable for service.I like the idea of QR codes. I've seen QR codes lasered into Aluminium.
Not only that, but a QR code is overkill, and actually makes it more difficult. The important information is month and year. Easy enough for the guy at the fill station to add 5 years and make a determination if that date has happened yet. With a QR code, a device that can read it is needed. And then, they’d need to scan until they found the latest. Not exactly efficient.Luxfer have said any laser markings on a tank makes it unsuitable for service.
The idea of a QR code as proposed by the individual/bot that started this thread was to replace the hydro stamp. While it may look nicer, won't perform nearly as well. Stickers might stay for a while, or they may come off after a couple years. Stamps in the metal are an accepted practice and seem to be working just fine. The QR code is a solution in search of a problem and creates other problems. What's the purpose of the QR code? Does that supposed to take the place of the VIP sticker or something?

QR code would need to be scannable. First, a device to decode would be needed, a smart phone would likely work, but it's extra effort to scan it versus just looking quickly at the stamps. Additionally, as a sticker is on a tank, it's likely to get bumped and scratched. This could render the QR code unreadable.
The OP is banned now, but I still do not mind supporting the original line of thought.
We should encourage critical thought, especially when the answers "are obvious." Had we not questioned the norms, we would not have advanced. Take a minute to think about how many things we take for granted today were outrageous at some point.
I also hope that the OP did not get banned for the first post to this thread. The opening bordered on questionable etiquette but was not an outrageous violation of any discourse.
The mods never explain this for a variety of reasons, but he was certainly suspected of being a bot by many people. Was he banned for being a bot?
