He dosn't have any.....
I even gave him a link to expalin how HIS system works. 911 is answered by SO then transfered to FD dispatch.

Your above comments may be valid outside of South Africa, but here we prefer to contact DAN first. All contact that I have had to date with DAN has been very efficient. If any of you do visit South Africa and come and see our superb dive spots, remember the emergency response units in South Africa (Govt owned ones) are not that fast, so we make use of Netcare 911 (082 911 from any local mobile phone) or DAN as the priority repsonse teams.

DAN has a "priority response team"? Can you elaborate please?

Dive-aholic:
If you're going to be quoting other sources, then you should state that from the beginning. Also, either your sources are giving you bad information or you are misinterpreting what they say. A word of advice: speak from your own experience, not others.

as said before, i have no experience. i'm also not misinterpreting their information...i copied it down word for word from what they said to this forum. that website wildcard gave me didnt really say anything objective.

lets just agree that dispatches from around the country are different.

It says very specificaly that SO answers 911 from land lines and CHP from cell phones. Those calls are then transfered to FIRE dispatch.
There is a term for people like you besides wanna be's. "not a snow balls chance"
You have even failed to mention from where you make these observations. Are you doing fire ride alongs or on private? Or even at all?

the responses were gotten on an ems/forum and a couple private ride alongs

As to the first question, who to call first,
We did have the same question on this side of the big blue, and we came up with the following.
1.call EMS whatever it might be 911/112 or what's normal for your area.(you need help)
2.call the folks back home.so put a ICE# in your cell phone.

All others can wait.

ICE= In Case of Emergency

does anyone keep the number of a hospital where a chamber is located nearest their dive spot?

I keep the number for the hospital with the greatest competence, which also knows where the closest chamber is, if I need it..
Of course, I need to let people I dive with that I do have it stored on my phone and as what..
If im going diving abroad, I Ill add the local emergency numbers (911/112 or whatever it is where I dive)

Go sit in dispatch for a shift or two. Then post your observations here. I'm sure they will be different.

BTW, do you really think you can believe everything you read in forums? ;)
