This year is more of an infrastructure year for us. I am on contract until January 2010, but as long as most people are happy with me, it remains a viable part of my business, and the park district remains happy with me, it is a renewable contract. This year we are going to be installing some things that will help us long term. We are going to be improving the concession area and putting a couple of more banks of fill tanks in. We are also going to put up a compressor shed to get them out of the office :)

As far as improvements, We are going to put in a few more underwater sites this year as long as we can fund it. We have two sailboats slated (need to get a little more money for those to move) and we have an offer for some other cool things but those will take a long time to clean up. We did put a new buoy system in, with more regular buoys and underwater floats to keep them in place. I got the idea from the National Marine Sanctuary in Thunder Bay so they are very similar to what they have. Next weekend the Maritime Archeological Survey Team will be installing a REAL shipwreck buoy in the quarry for us. It is being upgraded after spending three years on Lake Erie and MAST is letting us keep it in service for a little while longer.

We are looking at the possibility of adding a couple more entry and exit points similar to the ladder on the northeast corner. After that there will be a couple more training platforms. We will have a buoyancy course and with that a DPV course. In june we are going to be hiding in the quarry a day pass (so you can dive the next time for free) and three or four free air fills that people can redeem at the Concession on weekends. They will be pretty cool but you will have to watch the website for the annoucement.

We have a couple of other things in the works but I would prefer to keep them secret.

As far as the camping goes the park district just finished with really nice campsite improvements. They are looking at other improvements as well such as a shower house on the camping side. The thing is that these things cost money, and with that sometimes there are price increases to cover it. Unless of course, the popularity of the quarry increases :) So tell your friends.

Last thing, look at the calendar for events. We are having a Mini Dive Rite Tech tour August 19 - 20 at the quarry, and we are having a Quarry only Photography contest on July 4 -5 with a mini seminar by Photographer Dave Haas (haasimages.com) We are looking at possibly doing a treasure hunt and of course our Underwater Pumpkin carving contest.

PLEASE let me know what we can do to make it better. BTW we do have a spectacular 40ft cabin cruiser towards the middle of the quarry. Long swim but it is worth it... forgot to mention that if you are DPV certified we rent those too.

Thanks for you support. Safe diving, See you on a lake or in a Quarry really soon.
