Dave....

What subject are you thinking of with this IANTD instructor?

And best of luck with kicking the ciggie habit.

actually, I thought there might have to be some sort of shop sponser, but probably not. I didn't have in mind for him to instruct, but to attend and participate as a student or observer. GUE sends the instructor, as you know.

PS: 33 hours without a cigarette, and going strong.

There doesn't have to be a shop sponsoring the event. I could not find any shops interested enough in the GUE point of view to sponsor the class. I am using the classroom at one of the tech oriented stores here but the store isn't putting their name to the class. The owner, a cave diver among other things, is interested in what the class has to say but he has a number of cherished items that conflict with GUE training. So attending the class is all he has wants to do. The other main tech store here wanted absolutely nothing to do with the class.

What are all the LDS stores afraid of with the classes, is there a liability problem or something...I don't understand. And does there have to be a shop involved or can we just find a class room or meeting room somewhere and get them to send the instructor?

It's not the liability issue. It's that the GUE course is quite a bit more difficult than the IANTD or TDI.

Mike Ridgeway has been leaning his classes more and more toward the GUE/DIR principals as he has been going along. Now he is looking at signing up for the instructor's course and taking it sometime this summer.

As it states in the GUE course outline, (concerning equipment), "come prepared to make some changes."

Since Mike Ridgway is leaning his classes more and more that way, and I'm taking his classes, I guess I'm already getting the GUEF course. I really wouldn't see any need to take a course from someone else if Mike was doing the classes. To me, he's an excellent mix of toughness and supportiveness. I feel confidant that he won't pass me in a course that I am not doing satisfactorily. At the same time, he's never shown up with an attitude towards anyone.

As far as equipment, mine is already DIR. I have already moved in that direction and then got the "Doing it Right: The Fundamentals of Better Diving" book by JJ and I'd let George freakin Ervine III hisself go over my stuff now.

I'm taking my cave certification from Mike Ridgway and working on my gear. He's studying the GUE standards. The course if expensive, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know what I'd get out of it except the status of having the GUE card.

I'm sure it's a great course. Maybe there'll be enough to form a class.
