Yep, then those visitors reseeding their homelands on return. Several days cramped together on those floating resorts can certainly aid in spreading. The 1918 Flu traveled in waves partly with returning WWI service members returned from overseas, but our transportation is much more efficient this century. I'm not expecting waves so much as repeated hot spots and explosions.

I read that in 1918 when they relaxed quarantining after the first wave had passed, NYC held a parade to celebrate, and a week later their hospitals were all overrun again with flu cases. You know what they say about history repeating itself...

Heard only 8 of 119 ships sailing at first or something like that - I'd think by June/July, we'll know enough about the resurgence that'll happen........ I really hope that we know enough about quick containment that it's only a small problem

I don’t think we can directly compare flu pandemic of 1918 with this corona pandemic. I agree that some parallels can be drawn on the virus resurgence after lockdown is lifted. Pandemic of 1918 actually came in three waves. Only second wave was deadly for some reason. Social isolation restrictions were lifted in November and there was a resurgence in December (third wave) but there was not a single death recorded after the New Year at that time. So go figure. They did not have vaccines or antivirals or ICUs etc. Everybody is speculating on how this is going to play out for this summer, but no one really knows. This thing could go away as fast as it started. As I mentioned in a prior post - first SARS and MERS after initial wave never became a major problem , even if you believe that they did not completely go away.
I guess we will just wait to see how this year plays out.
