I saw a video on YouTube today about using a lighter to burn off the silicone residue. I tried it and it did just what the video showed. Here is the video to check out.

I gotta say, I'm definitely reluctant to use fire around gear that keeps me cozy underwater. If I can get my hands on a cheaper mask to try it out on, I will. But my Frameless is going nowhere near fire :)

I just used this method on two ScubaPro Mini Spectra masks and it worked just fine. By just, I mean this afternoon. My mask is a polarized mask, it took a few attempts to get all the silicone coating off. My wife's mask has a clear lens and clear skirt and only took two or three shots at getting it clean. You don't hold the lighter in one place for too long, you can see the silicone residue receding just like the video shows it doing. I didn't get any black residue until I used a regular BIC lighter because my BBQ lighter was running low on fuel.

Here is a URL for a thread posted in the Equipment of Scuba section. I just read this hole thing this evening. Lots of people do this and have zero issues.
