Hello my fellow stroke,
As I understand the definition it is a diver who is aware of the HOG/DIR
positions but decides to ignore them. The later being a method of diving
and the former being a philosophy. A stroke is a widely used term in HOG
speak. The underlying rationale is that the information is available and to
the extent you either:
- choose not to seek it out;
- seek it out and choose not to follow it; or
- have your own position that differs from the recommended
method/philosophy.
I have fallen into category #2 of strokedom, and do so proudly. While I
agree that MANY of the recommendations have a substantial amount of validity
to them, there are some that I just flat out disagree with.
Accordingly, while this is a fraternity to which I will never belong you
should atleast check out there recommendations many of them are worthwhile
and you may ultimately find yourself adopting some of them.

You are instructed by qualified and respected instructors to do something a
certain way. You practice, practice and more practice this certain way
until it becomes second nature. Then you inquire about another method that
is gaining in popularity, which is completely contradictory to the method
you have been trained and perfected. And then more often then not while
trying to eductate yourself in this method you are attacked for questioning
it. No one will willing abandon something they have been trained in without
the benefit of a substantial amount of due dilligence. Since, WKPP is not a
training agency, and access to there methods is limited to literature
provided by certain members it is natural to assume people will want to find
more about it. I have not criticized DIR methods as much as I have simply
question the reasoning behind certain things that conflict with my prior
training. It seems to be if this method is going to continue to gain in
popularity the leaders of this charge should be more willing to engage in
discussion and less desirable of attacking. If I have mischaracterized
WKPP's response it is not my intention, and I specifically exclude George,
Jarrod and Dan from this characterization.

You know how you know when you've won the argument?? When your opponent needs to go back 4 years to take satire, post it out of context and tries to resort to personal attacks.. Chris, this isn't rec.scuba where they relish in that, please take your toys and go back to and tell the boys on rec.scuba I said hello.. It often amazes me with guys like you. You are the first to start fights, you are the first to troll, you are the first to resort to attacks but you are also the first to whine that the DIR guys are mean to you..
Please don't ruin this list like a few of you clowns have on rec.scuba.. Go back there, take all the cheap shots you want but don't drag this list down to the level of rec.scuba..

YOUR 03 EXPERIENCES will be available in due course from DAN, an unbiased source, and when they ARE, we'll take a look at THOSE and analyze them in the SAME critical light that I shone on the '01 statistics!

You've really just succeeded in pointing out that he is open minded enough to have evolved as a diver in the last four years.
