In quality, reviews, and cost, plus storage area and price...

07 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS AWD... Great Vehicle. Comparable to our BMW X3 we just sold for roughly half the price.

I haven't heard anything about the "07 Santa Fe's. Did they change them for this year? How's the power, mpg..etc?

I really like the 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I am driving now it is big enough for gear for the weekend for about 3 or if you pull a trailer a few more. For a larger group 4 or 5 I really like my dads Chevy Tahoe. It is a bit bigger and has the ability to tow A LOT more weight than the Jeep (bigger engine).

But my favorite dive vehicle for a long trip is this one that the LDS owner used to own. Much more room and it had two of the essentials for a road trip with the local gang a head and a bar. Slept 17 two lounges lots of room for 50+ tanks and gear for everyone plus it could pull a trailer etc.... Great dive vehicle if you can afford one.

07 Santa fe 3.3 L 242 horse. TipTronic Shifting. On demand AWD, Electronic Stability Control... Leather seats like butter. 21 city 32 Hwy... YMMV. Huge storage bin under rear area. Or it could be a 7 seater... but then no room for gear... You could always leave the wife at home... Sorry honey. Im getting 100KM for 13 litres on average in Vancouver for you Canadians out there.

That thing is huge. I'd hate to try and park that at some of the local dive spots at Hood Canal. LOL! But it would be nice to have all that room. :)

Pontiac Aztec. Mine gets avg 22mpg (town/highway) room for lots of stuff! Plus you can get a tent and mattress for it! Trip to St Lawrence: 2 divers, 2 dive bags, 8 tanks, bags for street clothes, tool kit, extra bag for spare regs. Still had enough room for another person if we needed it. Back seats are removable 1 or both, enough head room to change comfortably with one seat out while seated on the other. Center console is also a removable cooler. Radio cd controls for front seat and rear seat passengers. I can listen to cd while you have headphones and listen to the radio. Extra set of radio controls in carge area if you are too lazy to walk up front to change the station or volume. To me it's the ultimate DTV (diver transport vehicle)!

WELLLLLLLL.......
Since after owning a Honda, and a Toyota, I am now a BIG fan of American Vehicles.
I have the Duramax Diesel 2500HD from Chevy in a Crew Cab to Pull my 30' Travel Trailer......
But my dive rig is my Venture Van, I broke this in on the Autoban in Germany. It gets 28 MPG if you set cruise on 63 mph. Will hold 4 divers and gear.....or 2 divers and LOTS of gear.
While I like the looks of the Ridgeline, it still is NOT a truck, much like the Nissans and TOYotas. My Big Chevy also gets 25 mpg if you set cruise at 65mph, as long as I'm not pulling 12,000 lbs.
Oh, and if you get hit in a foreign auto...................
Guess you should get what you want, but as for my family, they ride in Chevy's or Fords........

BUT...give me 14 years, I LOVE THE BUS ABOVE!!!!!!!!

XJ6 Jaguar LWB.

Completely impractical, weighed a bit over 2 tons, impossible to park, drank fuel, about zero ground clearance, but lovely to drive on flat straight roads.

Also would get you some very funny looks if you're half naked stripping off a wetsuit in front of an open trunk.

No,,, You can't catch two rabbits, MPG and Power.

The mid-sized SUV isn't enough to haul more than 5X8 foot sized trailer... You need to get the I'm stupid cooler and trailer brake. And, it eats a lot of gas.

So, you have to choose one, either gas or power....

As for the gas wise, Honda Element is also pretty good option. I am driving Honda CRV for the dive trip, but it eats more gas than the Honda's advertisement... For the budget buyer, Toyota XB is also great option, 30/34 MPG rate...... I am not a big fan of America car because of the durability, MPG and reslae value.

Jeep Liberty CRD.

Diesel, I get 30 mpg Highway, 23 city,Real 4WD, can tow 5000 lbs and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Hard to find, they stopped making the 2006 ones early and 2006 was the second and last year.

We used to have one of these at Moss Landing Marine Lab (less the gun of course) it was great for going up and down the beach to recover marine mammal and turtle remains with the a-frame that was mounted on stern. It's an amphib and wasn't bad for diving.
