whats it stand for?

D - Doing
I - It
R - Right

Doing It Right...it's a different approach to diving - not quite the same as the casual recreational diving. Check out some of the links in this thread and you should get an idea as to what it's about.

Still not clear at all what this is. Is this an organization of some type? If not, who are the 'they' to which the many posts refer?

More confused after reading the above URL's than when I started.

Sorry,

GUE is who they are,
WKPP is what they do,
DIR is what they teach and
Halcyon is what they sell. :)

DIR is not an organization so much as it is a motto of a group of people that dive a certain way.

GUE is the organization that teaches a style of diving that matches the DIR philosophy.

It is one of the classic great raging debates on this board...DIR vs. Non-DIR. It leads to a lot of name-calling and arguments over a pretty stupid thing - diving styles.

For example...just as a PADI OW class will tell you to always keep your octopus strapped into the triangle on your chest and you give your octo, DIR will teach you that you have a long Primary hose that you give away and you breath off the second reg attached to a necklace on your neck.

Training by GUE is just another way to learn how to dive. I'll leave the merits of one organization over another to a different debate...but DIR is just the philosophy and live style of a group of divers.

most of the above mentioned...it is a good way to start an arguement over nothing.........

2 out of 4 isn't too bad, but....

Gue is the training organization for the DIR approach to diving.

WKPP is a diving group that does some pretty extreme dives see
wkpp.org They are not related to GUE, but follow the DIR principles to the max since the team leader was involved in setting up the principles of DIR. Most divers will never dive with WKPP or do the extreme dives. It is well suited for recreational divers.

DIR Fundamentals is only one of many classes taught by GUE.

Halcyon is not GUE, but a serarate sales company that handles dive equipment. GUE does not sell equipment.
