LDS has a couple brand new tanks that only have 1 year left on the hydro. (64 Catalinas with the DIN/Yoke valve configuration). These are a perfect tank for my wife, and I was wanting to expand the inventory... Owner says he will "price them to go".... just wondering, what you guys would consider a reasonable price? They aren't a high volume dealer, so obviously that has some bearing on the pricing. Currently (if I remember correctly), they were tagged $166 each..... I know I have gotten new 80's for less in the past, but it has been quite a bit of time since i was in the tank market.

Are you talking about AL63s? I think so. I personally like those tanks, I ended up using them most of the time in Bonaire, and I use mine much more frequently than my AL80 on local dives. (although neither as often as LP72s)

I would guess $100 would be reasonable, not really based on anything. They've been sitting around for 4 years.

My wife uses AL63's as well (she sips air), and loves the smaller tank.

Cost me approx. $160 at the time. If they're "new" (undived, no corrosion at all, stored with positive pressure, etc.), I'd also say about $100. Keep in mind you have to do a hydro shortly (approx. $35 at my LDS).

We currently have new alum 80's for $139. at Scuba New York ..all just a few months old..complete with vip and a fill.

$163 is the going price at Leisure Pro for an AL63 with a convertible valve. I use that benchmark as a reality check. Once you do the puts and takes of shipping, genuine local VIP, first fill, sales tax???, shipping etc. your local shop is not out to lunch. Material costs have been tough on items like cylinders.

The bone of contention would seem to be the hydro date. I'd ask that he discount the cylinders by the going hydro rate and call it a deal.

My dive shop cleared out tanks that had been floor models last year. They priced them at 35% off. Around $100 for AL63 would be okay. A good deal would be $90 each.

$100 each. That's a good price, they shouldn't expect to get more than that.

Agreed, subtract out new hydro costs and $ 100 per tank (give or take) sounds fair, I wouldn't quibble over $ 10 bucks either way.
