For the OP read this thread (it is a sticky thread at the top of the tank forum):

Is my cylinder made from the "bad" alloy aka AL6351?

Yes, your cylinder is made from the "bad" alloy.

Next you are in FL which seems to pretty much abandoned servicing and filling these cylinders. Some shops have some other whacky rules but I will not digress into that discussion.

So what to do with it. Scrap it or repurpose it. But save the valve as it is still usable.

Yeah, I meant 3AL. I was giving the OP the info needed to put this tank back in service. That would be true of any used tank that is Aluminum and out of vis and hydro. If I were to recommend an alternative as far as a long term investment, it would it would be to bite the bullet and buy steel. I bought a Faber 133, in hydro on ebay 2 weeks ago for $240, just needed a little exterior cleaning and touch up to the paint. Another reason I still use these tanks is that I have a compressor and do my own inspections, short of hydro, and am self sufficient. If I'm not using them at the time, I only store @ 300psi. No point in having a high sustained load on them if you don't have to.

As far as valve re-building goes, it is simple and fool proof, much less so than rebuilding a side draft carburetor. Anyone who dives and can't, or won't do these simple maintenance and reconfiguration tasks on tanks, valves and regulators will discover that paying someone else to do it is the bulk of their diving costs.

The Aluminum tanks don't make good bells, but do make great flower pots. I cut the bottom out of one and made a PVC plug. I use it on the tank tumbler to clean small parts and polish rifle and pistol brass.

Very good info thanks everyone!
I'm not even certified yet so I'm in no hurry for gear, just wanted to what y'all thought of this tank. By the way although I am still an excellent griller, I am not a firefighter, I'm actually in the Coast Guard. Firefighting is just another area we are trained in just in case we have a casualty at sea.

Thanks again!
