Nope... wouldn't be prudent...

The point is that you can get by quite nicely without a computer... and keep your brain from rotting at the same time.

Use your tables.
Plan your dive.
Use a bottom timer.
Use a depth gauge.
Dive your plan.

Your brain will have to keep track of more things but that is good for your brain... makes it healthy and happy.

with UnclePug! But i did buy a Dacor Equino2x, any input on this computer?:martian:

Uncle Pug also doesn't believe in using the automobile. Says it rots his legs.

And forget the concept of the microwave either. He doesn't have to heat his meals. Keeps his belly happy.

Sorry, Pug, couldn't resist. :D

nicodaemos once bubbled...

Never heard of this. Can you elaborate or point me somewhere I can learn more about this?

I'm just halfway through my BOW and a newbie to the board so don't listen to anything I say.
I think the "120 mnemonic" is that avgDepth + diveTime = 120. I came to this conclusion from the NAUI charts and another of UP's posts about 120. Of course that's stripped down and doesn't factor in residual nitrogen.

Just some nibblets for thought, don't dive it.

Don't do this if you dive in metric.

Don't do this if you're doing repetitive dives.

Don't do this without dive insurance.

Oh... and note that Uncle Pug is diving nitrox, not air.

Zept, who thinks this mnemonic is as brain-rotting as a computer

As said above, I'm a junior member so don't listen to anything I say! =-) However, I've been diving for a couple of years now and just started getting into a routine where I'm diving more than a couple of times a month. A dive computer is a life saver. I have the UWATEC Aladin Z Nitrox.

Sometimes when you're going out with a group of people you may end up seeing something that could cause you to rethink your dive plan. This is exploration right? Dive plans don't always fit what you would really like to do. With my dive computer, I feel safe knowing that I'm still within my boundries if I do decide to go off and break a rule here and there.

I am not advertising to not plan your dive out appropriately beforehand. Just that if you change your mind a little bit, dive computers assist you.

Another benefit is that I actually am logging my dives now. It's easier to come home, upload the information and add a couple of comments about your dive. I also throw some pictures in there and now have a great history of my diving. Nice and easy.

I use a wrist mounted dive computer the NITRO2X from POLAR, the same people who make fitness heart rate monitors. It is virtually the same as the Buddy NEXUS made by AP valves, except in price.
The Buddy NEXUS goes for about £300, wheras the POLAR cost me £125 from Ndiver.
Wrist mounted for me is much easier, especially if you are doing a controlled b'nt lift.

I use a computer (Aeris 300G) as my primary and a watch with depth and ND limits as a backup. I always take my dive tables though, just in case.

Well this is my first comp.A wrist mounted MATRIX.Although the new Cobras I`ve been seeing are mouth waterin delights, this little Matrix works well and fits my budget rather nicely!:)
