I would like to get a friend of mine a good SCUBA book as a gift.

He is a diver and lives in Germany. Any suggestions would be helpful.

And I would like to get something for myself also.

shadow divers is nice

the last dive

silent world

deep descent

dark descent (not as good as deep descent, imho)

oh yeah, Down Time has some great stuff

(it's a collection of essays and stories, some poems too)

Michael Jung's
"Hans Hass Ein Leben land auf Expidition"
Curently a very popular book in Germany about the great German diver

or
Michael Jung's
"Sabotage unterwasser, Die deutechen Kampfswimmer im zweiten weltkrieg"
Great story about the 30 German UDT members of WW11.

Cheers from California--where it all began,

SDM

Everyone has named some great ones so far. Deep descent, dark descent, Shadow divers, Last Dive, and the books by Gentile would be good gifts.

I'd also recommend "Hiding on the Bottom." I've read it and it's a wonderful book. Not just saying that because the author is a friend. :D Seriously, it's a great book and I'd recommend it to someone for a gift. Here is a thread telling more about it: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=172211

Neutral Buoyancy by Tim Ecott...great stuff!
The Rapture of the Deep by Michael Zinsley...(funny stuff)
The Cave Divers by Robert Burgess
Submerged by Daniel Lenihan

All good stuff!
