Spit isn't always available, especially after a dive or two, or worse, after lunch...
is true, then you ain't hydrating enough Chester. Drink lots more water in between dives! Also with the tongue method, you really don't need much saliva (I do believe in conserving spit) and you will feel any and all residues in the mask so you can make SURE it's clean!!! Oh yeah... that bologna sandwhich only adds to the cleaning effect!

Spit.

I used to use Johnson Baby Shampoo, but I kept forgetting it.

Spit works just as well and I always seem to remember it!:)

"I got some rotten looks from others too leaving suds in the rinse bucket."

I don't use rinse buckets unless I'm the first to use it. A rinse bucket should be used as a source of water. It is not a place to slosh your mask around. After the 1st person does that (with any solution) it is no longer a fit source of water with which to rinse a mask.

Always found the basics to work best... spit, rinse, dive. If diving in hot conditions do the clearing early and keep the mask filled with water until just before the dive.

Works a treat

FLL Diver once bubbled...
<snip>

$2.99 Sea Drops does it for me.

The guy at the LDS threw a bottle of this stuff in the bag one day when I bought something and it actually works very well. Better than spit I think. The nice bit is you can put it on the outside of the mask for those really cold days.

My buddy spits. He gobs tremendously and says "The Greenerrrrr the betterrrrrrr" :) It's like a ritual for him.

J&J Baby Shampoo. If you think it's hard to rinse out or suds too much, cut in 50/50 with water...lasts twice as long!

Commercial stuff....500psi or 2000X but it's easy to use too much, not rinse enough out and end up with a streaky mask.

I have to say the regular old SEA DROPS work for me.

The baby shampoo routine sounds interesting though...

But, I have two bottles of Sea Drops right now, that last me a long time... Works great!!!!!:)

I've used spit since I started diving 42 years ago... it works as good now as it did then. And I figure I've saved a few thousand $$$ by not buying anything commercial over that time frame.

I'm usually at the Casino Dive Park and I give out free samples (yech!).
