OTOH, I've got a SP MK10 bought in the US that has the 26mm yoke nut! Go figure :D

I just checked over a dozen yoke nuts from Mk2/5/10/20s and all were 1" or a bit less. Smallest was 25.1mm.

So, if you buy both the 1" and the 26mm, you should be pretty well "covered" for 99% of the 1st stages out there

This is actually what I did because I was not sure which size I would need for "future" regs I might get on ebay :idk:

Best wishes.

I have a couple of SP regs where the 1" socket from Scubatools is too small. My home made 1" socket fits them all. Just one point of reference.

By checking them, I'm guessing you mean with a micrometer. If so, are you also rotating the fitting and checking a different set of flats? Are you finding any variance in dimensions on the same yoke retainer?

I gotta get a life.........:shakehead:

Is there much of a learning curve when you do your own regs? How long did take it to service a 1st and 2nd stage in the beginning? How much shorter did it get after you became proficient?

Also, I have 2 MK10+ with 2 G250 Graphites. I've been able to find manuals for G250V's and G250HP's. Are any of these manuals usable for my graphites? Or do I have to get graphite specific manuals? If so, were could I get them?

Yes there's a bit of a learning curve, and you'll need plenty of time to start with, so this is not a professionally profitable operation. A good place to start is this manual.

Here's approximately my own project plan:
  • Poke around this board: 1 month
  • Read Oxy's book: 1 week
  • Shop around for tools & parts: 1 month
  • Start on a G250: 1/2 day
  • Start on a MK10: 2 days
Don't let this turn you off: it gets a lot better with practice, and think of all the benefits you get: saving on service, peace of mind on safety, ability to buy a large quantity of used regs for cheap, service them good and let them sit in a closet forever. :D

Good luck.

Edit: G250, Graphite and Vintage are all the same. If you have the service manual (not the schematic), I'd be interested to have a copy.

It looks like I'm missing a manual for the G250V. I only have schematics for G250V. I do have the repair guide and the troubleshooting guide for the G250HP. I could still use those 2 guides with my Graphites, right? I tried attaching my pdf's on this post, but the documents are bigger than the SB attachment size limit. PM me your email so that I can send them over to you.

No thanks, I have the HP one; it's not very useful because the true G250 is a bit different, actually easier to work on.

Thank you all for all the information and links. This was really helpful. I read through some of the materials linked to in responses and servicing regs does not look too difficult. I think my mechanical skills are sufficient for this.

The books and tools look pretty "doable" from a cost standpoint except that I saw reference to ultrasonic cleaner. I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner and probably don't want one. I assume they are not cheap. I think I will order one or both books to start and read through those.

I might see if I can pick up a "beater" reg or two to work on before I try to do anything on my regs.

Thanks again for the help and references.
