Yeah, I double dog dare you to pull that out and start pointing it around...

That made me laugh quite a bit! Thanks for the cheer after 5 days of no power up here. Cheers!

Chief, a vest is a band aid after the fact. For the truly nervous there are hand held explosive testers.

Oh, I like it. Will that take a dewalt battery? I have been shopping for a new wetsuit. But I think it makes me look even fatter than a regular wetsuit.

You're really not helping here. I wonder if the other Coz operators share your infectious enthusiasm about scaring people away from the island?

Ah that is the C4Y position of lets just talk about happy things and minimize the rest to protect business. That certainly has its place and I get it, but for those of us that aren't prone to getting overly excited like to hear the details. If Barcos Caribe started running again, I would have to consider if I could pass up on the better price and that nice couch they have in the front....

On the other hand, we could promote the rumor that is active on the island that most of the pics are actually photoshopped and it is a fake campaign aimed at affecting the upcoming election.

First, I don't think anyone especially Dave would claim that Dave's posts are always perfect. Maybe he could have put the date with the photo and not assumed that most people here have read the other related threads and understood he is talking about the device he has been talking about for awhile - the one his boat actually recovered and handed over to the Navy.

If it had been yet another device I think much more would have been said, and probably he would have had a visit from PGR to find out why his boats have such a propensity to find these devices. :eyebrow:

I am pretty sure his fellow business owners don't share the desire to report the details, which is why Dave's posts are so well liked. Whether it's bad weather in January or accident shakedowns or ferry bombings, he's shown that he would rather share known info than play it down for a personal vested interest.

Also, I don't mean to imply all other locals and business owners are suppressing information. Christi is another who will share known information. It's mostly C4Y.

Thank you for the clarification Todd!

I believe both Dave and I have provided information to the best of our knowledge. But somehow, some people do not seem to think that we have a right to protect and defend our livelihoods - or to earn a very modest living for that matter. They also seem to think we know more than we do often times.

I consider myself a valuable and honest source of information on this board. I have been a contributing member of this online forum for longer than I’ve owned my business (16 years next month) and lived on the island (8 years this year)- just about 2 decades as a member of this forum in fact. I joined back in the old days, before Facebook and Google. It was before Scubaboard was completely revamped and we had to join again because the members outgrew the old software.
I’ve always tried to be as helpful as I can be while maintaining personal and professional boundaries. Of course I’m human and am not always perfect at this.

Just like everyone else on this forum and just like every news reporter, we have our right to express and share our opinions, feelings, thoughts, information, theories - whatever you want to call them. We are not however OBLIGATED to share these things anymore than anyone else is obligated to share what’s going on in their hometown . What I am able and choose to share can be mixed in with all of the other opinions and theories and information and people who know how to think for themselves will figure out how comfortable they are traveling here or anywhere.

Have I posted inaccuracies at times? Absolutely, but I have always owned my mistakes and corrected them when discovered. Have I withheld information I didn’t feel would add value to a situation at times? Absolutely - as I’m sure we ALL have - it’s called being human.

I have purposely not participated much in this discussion because of these exact types of things - words get picked apart, twisted, or assumptions made about what is and is not being said.

When I post my opinions, I do not state them as fact - I state them as my own opinion. When I state facts, I state them as fact and credit my source (when allowed) if it’s not first hand information. Regarding the January weather - I went out of my way to provide factual historical data so that people can make their own decisions -if that wasn’t sharing details I don’t know what was!

I won’t change anyone’s mind or even pretend to be able to - I’m not that powerful - but I am entitled to share or withhold mine just like everyone else. And I will defend the island when I feel like it’s unfairly under fire.

EDITED: The formatting, typos and grammar errors were driving my OCD nuts - originally posted from my phone - now FIXED :)

Crap Reports? That is more than insulting and should be subject to a moderator's notice. I don't think I have ever posted anything but the truth on this board, and in previous posts I was repeatedly queried as to the "device" found by my Captain the day before the Explosion in Playa. Before now I was constrained by the the government from releasing that photo. It is encouraging to hear from some that it was probably fireworks rather than dynamite…not possible without the photo.

You might notice that I have many more thanks on this forum than posts.

Your first post about that device was followed by posts asking why you weren't posting pictures if you were telling the truth (and you explained you'd been asked not to by authorities).

Now that you've posted a picture, you're questioned about your motives in doing so.

I find it hilarious that anyone would think you are interested in discouraging tourism to Cozumel, though I've come to learn that you probably won't shy away from posting things that could possibly lead to that even if it might be to your detriment.

Thanks for posting the picture.
