According to the SPL app on my phone it was over 50dB in our room with the door closed Sunday night after midnight. It went on until ~4AM..
It's all about signal to noise ratio. 50-55 db isn't that loud....unless it's quiet in your room and then yes, that noise level in a quiet room can be maddening. Also, your phone spl meter is probably A weighted, which isn't capturing a lot of the low frequency energy. So what you experience is likely even worse than what your phone spl meter is measuring. Thanks for letting us know and I"m sorry you're experiencing this. I've had to endure this before and it sucks.

I'm guessing that it was actually much louder than that reading indicated. If it does happen again, try using the NIOSH app and see what it shows in comparison to the app you used. I also use a decibel to ordinary noise conversion chart to help me better understand the impact it's having on me. According to several sources, 50 dB is equivalent hearing moderate rainfall outside your window or a household refrigerator in the same room you are in...

It is otherwise very quiet in the room at night, so yes, it was making me crazy. Foam earplugs have very little effect on low frequencies, but wax earplugs (2 per ear) and two Benadryl let me finally get to sleep. We are here until Tuesday; I hope that repetitive, monotonous low frequency pounding is over for the duration of our stay. Did I mention it was for 12-14 hours a day, ending between 2AM and 4AM?

It must have been unbearable for the people at BARU condos.

Last year the rave was at the beach area near La Aldea across from the army base. Maybe they were forced to move it.

Enjoy the rest of your trip and don't forget to put a few pesos in Sylvia and Marlon's jar.

I'm all for kids having fun, and by kids I mean anyone under 50. :rofl3: But these raves are just crazy. I saw AC/DC, Van Halen, Ozzy and many others live in my youth. But these 12+ hour raves are pure insanity!

Back in the day I saw AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult (several times), Black Sabbath, Captain Beyond, and many other loud concerts. The loudest, I believe was Richie Blackmore’s Rainbow; I don’t think my hearing ever fully recovered from that show. A big difference is that I heard them by choice.

I walked over there to take a look Sunday night, and the only person who looked like he was having fun was the DJ. There were a lot of locals standing around shouting trying to communicate, but no one was dancing or even moving in time to the “music”. What was the point?
