It should take about 3 hours to get to the east coast. Do a google search on Sandy's Sunday. Its a boat out of West Palm/ Riviera Beach. I went out with her about a year ago and had a great time. The crew was outstandng and very accomidating. The price was about the same as everyone else and the dives were fantastic. We saw about 3 or 4 large loggerhead turtles the day I went on two dives. It is well worth the trip to get over there.

Hey Floridians,

Do you guys have the website for the boat trips on the West side of Florida for some awesome diving, I'd love to get some turtle pics and some of those rocks are full of coraline algae growth...

Here's one I highly recommend:
Underwater Explorers - SCUBA Diving Boynton Beach, Delray, Palm Beach, Reefs and Wrecks

This is Capt. Kev .... the pics you looked at from "Boynton Beach Chronicles" were taken from his boat. About 4 hours from Apollo Beach, nearby Holiday Inn Express is about $100 a night. You can leave early from Apollo, catch an afternoon boat, stay the night, catch a morning and afternoon boat, return to Apollo in 2 days total.

You can also reach the Upper Keys in about 5 hours.
Can't go wrong with these folks:

I like Jupiter Dive Center too.

I also like the Scuba club: Welcome to The Scuba Club, America's Only Country Club For Scuba Divers in West Palm Beach, FL

Jupiter, West Palm Beach and Boyton Beach are all drift dives

there is one beach dive that you can do in the West Palm Beach area: blue heron bridge. You've probably read about it in the FL section of the board: it is a pretty neat little dive.... I have done in 3 times in the last month: Blue Heron Bridge

One last location you might want to consider, if you have the time, is Key largo. Another 2 1/2 hours south of WPB but some pretty great wrecks and reefs. I did a 4 tank dive last Monday. Two morning wreck dives and two afternoon shallow reef dives.

Yup. The Scuba Club is a very good outfit for intro to drift diving. They usually put 3 DM's/guides in the water.

The Bridge is a great little dive. Until the last month I only used it for weight checks.

XLH:
I was out 3 times as well with the Scubaboard group. Were you there?

The Floridians rock: THANK YOU ALL FOR SO MUCH OF YOUR FEEDBACK....

Sandy's Sunday is owned by Ocean Quest Scuba, I dove with them a couple days ago, we saw several turtles...including a Kemp Ridley, my first one!! Great group. They are in Riviera Beach Marina, website is www.oceanquestscuba.com Not sure what the others charge but I know their 2 tank trip with air is $75 Good Luck and Happy Holidays...oh, also the water temp was 76 I was wearing a 3mm and I was just fine.

Mike,

Don't know when you're leaving for Florida so this might be too late, but you might want to consider getting one of these SCAPs. You know how much heat you lose through your head. I tried diving Vortex Springs a few years back (68 deg) with only my 7mm jacket and froze. I think a bit of head covering would have made a big difference.
