@MattMc3223 Highly recommend JMJ Wetsuits - as you'll read many people say, fit (not brand) is most important, and custom fit suit is the way to go.

Hope that helps,
Derek
I really don't agree with this statement when it is intended to apply to the whole population. Modern wetsuits have a considerable amount of elasticity in the material (much more so in thinner versus thicker suits), of course.

If a person is within a "normal" height, weight and body shape, an off the shelf suit may fit them fine. Of course, most women should be looking for women's suits.

I've had custom suits made before, they probably do fit a little better, but for me, the difference was pretty minimal. Nothing wrong with a custom suit, but the cost can be 2-3 times of some other suits.

If you have to dive wet in cold water, then open cell all the way. By the way, there is no difference between a wetsuit and a semi-drysuit apart from the seals and zips are better in the latter, so less flushing. Once upon a time, I owned a semi-dry that was so good, I had to flood the suit at the beginning of a dive by opening the neck seal to prevent suit squeeze. It was remarkable while it lasted.

I went with Henderson Thermoprene. I went with them, after some back and forth with Scuba.com, based on my body type/shape, as they offered an xl short (not the same as a shorty) that I thought was reasonably priced, and I liked the look. I have a 3mm and a 7mm and they have good fit and mobility. I don't have a ton of experience in the field, but they work for me.

Please take a look at our 7 mm suits. They are very warm, comfortable and have no zippers to leak. They are probably less expensive than some of the other suits you may have considered, especially since our suits come with an integrated hood.

Thanks!

Hi, these are of interest as I mostly like warm wage but find myself in Monterey bay CA every couple of months. Will 4oz of the spray covers 4 dives? Try not to check luggage and how cold are these good for?

Wet suit thicker than 5mm = dry suit

Yes it should cover 4 dives if you wet the suit first. The 7 mm suit is definitely warm enough , down to mid 40’s for some people.

Dry suit is the answer. If you really are not interested in going dry, the Mako 7mm (or other open cell free diving suit) will be your next best option. I've never understood the Semi-dry thing. The entire inside of an open cell suit is a seal, and the best zipper is no zipper. I can assure you, a lubed up free diving suit is easier to put on than any other 7mm suit.

I really want the opportunity to dive some of the natural and deep wrecks of NJ however the water temperature is significantly different. I am looking to get a 7mm wetsuit rather than a drysuit because of the price difference.
I’d save your money and keep looking for a deal on a drysuit. When I read “NJ” and “deep wrecks” and 50s temps, I don’t know if any wetsuit is going to keep you warm. At 100 ft, that 7 mm is going to be much less insulating than near the surface.

Depending on your size, you might get lucky with a used drysuit too. And you might talk with some of the local divers that do the kind of diving you’re talking about and see if any of them dives wet. I’ll bet you hear about divers that used to dive wet and got cold and then smart. I realize a drysuit is a lot of money, but I suspect if you really like diving in that environment, eventually you’re getting one.
