Tom R:
Open water all along the boat, give it a week or so and I think it will break up some more.

WOOHOO!!!! Thats the best news i heard in a while i love diving the wall.. Joe get back soon so we can go saturday or sunday

Under Michael:
Hey Tom, did you say charter on the Kinghorn? :bounce: Do you know who was running the charter? Also can you dive the wall from the end of the dock yet without overhead? Thanks,
UM

There was still ice in closer to the docks. We could see the open expanse of ice as we passed the little scuttled boat near the line. It almost seemed strange to leave the shadow of the ice and enter the "daylight"

one has to ask if you can walk out on the ice and shoredive the king horn?

No, that was a month ago, but you needed the chainsaw and a GPS.

Seriously though,

We would consider this an unacceptable risk. Entering at the bubbler means dropping into 10 feet of water with easy shore entrance and exit in case of problems requiring assistance. Jumping in at the edge means walking over possibly soft ice in 50 - 60 feet of water carrying all of your gear, as well as being 400 - 500 feet offshore when a problem occurs and you need help (i.e. someone falls through with full gear on, or worse, without an exposure suit or with an unzipped exposure suit and cannot climb out.) In addition, during the swim back you could end up under the ice searching for the bubbler exit without the line to guide you.

We were up in Rockport last Friday. Unfortunately the boat ramp was still covered in ice or else we could have launched one of our boats for a dive on the Kinghorn. We have been lucky not to have any ice down here in St. Catharines for the past couple of weeks. We've been out to the Tiller wreck every weekend for almost a monthe now. I think the river had almost as much ice this year as last.
