NWGratefulDiver:
Problem is, this ain't a courtroom.

Beating somebody into submission in a court of law is a sign of professional ability.

Doing it on a discussion board is a sign of social dysfunction.

Why the distinction? What is the purpose of a courtroom?
To determine the truth of a matter. Are you saying that a discussion board is at cross purposes with discovering the truth?

NWGratefulDiver:
To everything there is a place, time, and purpose ... what works in one place is ... to use NetDoc's term ... counterproductive in another.

The purpose of this board is to provide people a place to ask questions. If they believe they are going to get browbeaten into submission for asking the wrong question, they won't come here.

I suspect far more people are here seeking entertainment, comraderie, etc. than hard information. Anyone who relies solely on an internet discussion board for life support advice is asking to die. ('cause we ALL know that EVERYTHING on the internet is absolutely true and correct, right?) Anyone who gives life support advice on an internet discussion board without telling people to look it up for themselves (like I did) is begging for a lawsuit (not necessarily a successful one.)

So, let's assess the results of all this - Andy now understands the principles involved, he not only has his answer, but knows where to verify it, any newbie bystanders know they should check their OW text before asking, and a lot of people have had a lot of fun, and been royally entertained. What's the problem? OK, so Pete's got his knickers in a knot, but no one ever said leadership was fun, and he's the only one who actually made any REAL personal attacks (and Pete, I really don't mind, I'm a grownup, and it's not going to cripple me if you call me a few names, so don't lose sleep over it.)

Sounds like, as Martha Stewart would say "a good thing."

If anyone is still really upset, they may feel free to vent their frustrations at me. I hereby waive any and all rights to protection from whatever invective you want to throw my way. Pete, please abide by my waiver, and ignore it, as long as it's aimed at me, and uses language you find acceptable.

NetDoc:
From http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=dweeb
dweeb
n. Slang
A person regarded as socially inept or foolish, often on account of being overly studious.

Very mature. Once again our fearless leader has engaged in personal attacks and/or name calling. I suggest the next word he should look up is hypocrite.

It's very good to be the king.

I agree. That word fits you very nicely too. But really dude, your such a dweeb.

What personal attack?

I merely looked up "Dweeb" in Google. It's not MY fault that you chose that name! I was careful to not edit a THING either. Left them just the way I found them.

To put it in perspective, here is what I found for NetDoc...

Netdoc, Multipurpose Publishing Tool
Netdoc is a feature loaded package to create documents, websites and blogs. It is used with a web browser and the UI resembles a traditional desktop software.

There is an even lengthy article that I paid nothing for entitled Why NetDoc?. It's a good read, though it leaves out my personal life. I might also add that I have been included in the SharpToolBox

See how wise we were when we selected our aliases? I'm rather impressed myself! We have each selected names that reflect our usefulness!

BTW, did you happen to miss this from the second definition???
They are often, however, easy to wind up and can be the source of great mirth to the seasoned user.

Especially with the Question Police on the prowl!

Attention All Newbies... PLEASE ASK ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS! Don't let any dweeb stop you from asking a question that might make you a safer diver. Don't let anyone's need to make themselves out to be the "last word" on what you should know before you get into the water stop you from from asking any question.

It's truly funny when anyone justifies their ATTACK on people and then cries "personal foul" when they are called a "jerk" for doing so. In retrospect, "dweeb" sounds SOOOO much better! :D Lets just say that my opinion of any dweeb discouraging ANY kind of safety oriented discourse "is not dripping with syrup". :eyebrow:

NetDoc:
What personal attack?

"Well, that all depends on your definition of 'is'"
- Bill Clinton

Play games all you want. The intent was clear, and the content had no relevance to the thread.

"What attack?" - NetDoc

I asked if it was a joke, and gave the reference for the answer to the question.

dang, dweeb, now you're quoting Bill?

next thing you're gonna do is quote Marx... or maybe Stalin

and i was getting to like you and all

says dweeb: in the words of one of my greatest heroes,
Adolf Hitler, "Das icht nein achtung ein klein nicht musick!"
