My entry into Vortoberfest II 2006 started on Saturday morning around 7:45AM. The Kraken and wife, PHD and wife(MDB

), kentley and wife, Rick and Kat and family and friends, were already onsite and stirring for the morning. It was good to see some of the ScubaBoarders I had met before, but don't get to see often. It was also good to meet new SB'ers(kentley the T-shirt man!). I suppose it was still good to see those we see quite often

PHD, MDB, ect LOL. I came into Vortex early to see if I could gather any interest in a Morrison dive, unsuccessfull, but I wanted to see everyone again anyway

. The Kraken started on his brunswick(pre-cooked this time so he could actually enjoy some dives, and he did!). The papparazzi started here... More photos than should ever be allowed at any ScubaBoard event took place at Vortex this year. I don't think anyone got away clean.:mooner:
After a brief greeting and a few photos with Moonie the traveling gnome, pimp, alcoholic, ect; I headed back to Morrison. Paulwall had headed straight over there around 7AM and he was geared up by 8:30AM when I got there. PerroneFord and Vayu were also onsite. We did a dive and Paulwall headed out in search of Panama City Beach, a far away land with saltwater and boats and such. My dive reports will be made later and linked here in the future. By the time we exitted the water after our first dive, we found SeaYoda preparing to shoot a dive club pumpkin massacre. Jviehe was also onsite teaching a class. Hoss was onsite as well. Tons of Scubaboarders in the panhandle this weekend, good times! Did a second dive with Hoss, PHD crawled out of his hole and joined us as well. Then a nice big group of us(me, Hoss, PHD, Perrone, Vayu, and SeaYoda) headed to Sally's for some lunch. PF and Vayu headed back east and the rest of us headed back to Vortex for more debauchery and shinanigans. Tom Smedley and wife arrived to add thier own humor to the mix. I payed up for my new T-shirt. Friggin thing is sweet, it'll be worn as a badge of honor, survival of this event is memorable(atleast the sober parts). There were gun threats, arguements, snakes, fires, ect. We breaked for an afternoon dive, then continued the fight whilst Rick and Tom fired up the pit for a grand feast.
Feast we did, sausages from all over covered the grill, chucks of pork, veggies, and TK's brunswick stew were fired up and avaiable in all tempertures. Everyone ate their fill...and then some. Yoder brought cake! Moonie showed up for some rather unfortunate pictures that the papparazzi scrambled over. Again, all fell victim to the camera at this event. It seemed as every bite of food you took was documented via photo and good ole ribbing. It got cold, a few of us decided it was a good idea to strap on already wet gear and drop into Vortex again. Twas fun, but crowded. Back on dryland and freezing our tails off, we drank the temperature away until there wasn't anything else to drink. I some how managed to put the tent up before crashing.
Bright and early today(Sunday), I snapped a few shots of Vortex with mist rising from the water and a new sun overhead. Filled a tank, bought some chord, jammed the tent back in the truck, and strapped a canoe on the truck, before saying my goodbyes to everyone who had waken to that point. Paulwall and I were off to Cypress for another set of dives before, yet another, lunch at Sally's and off our seperate ways to home.
Vortoberfest II was another grand success. As last year, straight faces didn't last long and nobody could stop laughing. Again, it was nice meeting the new Vortoberfestians and, as always, wonderfull to converse with the ScubaBoarders that I've met and dived with for some time now. Many thanks to the organizers, The Kraken, Rick Murchison, and Tom Smedley for another great event. Thanks to Kentley for the awesome T-shirts. More thanks to all those who participated. I can't wait tille next year!
