I'm treated very considerately by my dive operators in SE Florida. None know my dive count or credentials. I've been diving with each of them for about 12 years and have always dived considerately and responsibly off their boats. Nothing beats a good personal relationship.

If I were SSI, I would have everything except Platinum Pro 5000, I can't imagine how well I would be treated :)

I must admit, this whole topic bothers me a bit. @Dody do you show your Master Diver and Century card, at check-in, as neither is needed for dive qualification (only OW or Advanced Adventurer and nitrox)?

Diving is funny

Why should it bother you? And we are not talking about the same thing. First, this is a personal experience and might not be an universal rule. Second, I am not talking of shops where people know me because I have been a long time customer. My LDS instructor in Cape Verde used to drive me home and even occasionally bought me drinks. It doesn’t compare.
My next diving trips in the next 3 months will be in Aruba, Egypt, Thailand and I might never go back in those very places. I will see if my perception is right.

What is the incentive to get to Platinum Pro? Any privilege to obtain such a mile stone? Extra discount or what?
No discount. Just similar to getting a medal, or a recognition ribbon, or a pin…
Helps you to feel better about yourself and may bring some respect of your peers. I talked to an Olympic medalist a couple of weeks ago. He has a medal. No discounts, but a cool subject to generate a discussion. If I am sitting in a bar or airport next to a platinum pro guy, I may pick his brain on a subject or two or will listen to some stories… A lot more eagerly than of a DM with 60-70 dives experience...

It doesn't bother me in the slightest, looks like it bothers you quite a bit though. I have a couple hundred dives with each of my operators in FL, many more dives than you have in total.

Let's see how unknown operators treat your SSI recognition awards, will be interesting to see. Let us all know how it works out.

I like free recognition. Makes me feel that the company really values its customers. Even if I am not naive. But that’s an easy choice between dive shops.

Why not just show them your DM cert that should be enough? For me when I dive at a place that does not know me is show them dives on my DC and one of my certs. If a dive center treats you differently over an app there is something wrong especially if they have not seen you dive before. I get discounts because of the 40 plus dives I do on each vacation with the dive center. When people ask how long I have been diving and I tell them since 1986 and the number of dives I have, BSAC and PADI certs then that it enough.

If I want to do a dive deeper to 40m I check with the DM as some dive ops prefer to only take very experienced divers to those depths. Many try to keep dives to 30m max depth for their vacation divers who do not dive a lot.

I don't crave recognition I just want to dive. I've never been treated badly by any dive operator and always had a good dive tip even when sometimes it's only been for 6 dives over 2 days.

You wrote that the thread bothered you or I misunderstood 😉. When I think of it, I really think it made a difference. I will let you know if the feeling continues.

I am sure they will treat it well if they are a decent operation

All my certs are on my century diver card. All the trainings I passed with SSI. I don’t show my card to have any privilege. I just think in hindsight that I have a better treatment when I show it.
