Hi Ya'll,
I haven't heard much bout the party for a few days and decided to post to put it at the top again. I am looking at the best western on venice beach to stay at Friday night and maybe Saturday night.
Should we try to reserve a block of rooms and maybe get a discount?
Does anybody know of a dive shop in the area that we can get air fills and or rent tanks? What is the costs involved in renting? In air fills?
Does somebody have truck that can make a run?
How about food? Is everybody bringing their own or should we delegate who brings what and how much? Or maybe the cost per person for food.
I guess most of these questions go toward Wendy because she is organizing it, so Wendy if you want to PM me, or need some help let me know.
What is the head count so far? anybody else besides Mike, Marvel, me and my daughter and possibly some non divng friends driving over from Ft. Lauderdale area?

Scuba_jenny,

Glad to see that you can make it. I did a dive with Dr. Jay and FallenMatt yesterday at a spot a little further south from where we plan to do the dive on the 9th. We went a LDS for refills and they were 3 bucks apiece. Do not know about rentals, it's a small shop so you may want to call ahead 'cause they do charter boats every weekend as well and of course their tanks would go to the boats first.

The place is called florida west scuba school the website is www.floridawestscuba.com

the tel: 941-486-1400.

see ya' there,

It is completely up to you guys on how you want to handle the food. I think we may have roughly 30 folks there. Somebody suggest something. I just got us all together, ya'll take over from here.

As far as hotel rooms go, I don't think I'll end up crashing there after all, so it just depends on what everyone else wants to do.

by then or not. If I do, it will probably be a truck and tanks will be easy! Either way, I will be coming up early a.m. and leaving that afternoon. I hope to have an initial "Duck" count by tomorrow evening!

Are we going to the spot by the condos? The one off of Alhambra Street?

From the one time that have have been there, Cindy and I found about 40-50 teeth. Some of the other posters have numbers in the hundreds. Sounds like it has a few more than some of the more recent sites people have been trying out.

I do have a truck, and can throw my grill in the back of it (need to get my propane bottles filled though).

Cindy WILL be coming now. She was going to fly to Indiana that weekend, but there was a change in plans so she is back with us.

Not sure what to suggest for food...Can we take grills onto the beach there? Or do we need to just do it in the back of the truck?

I can make a box of pasta salad and bring it in my cooler. I'll also have some bottles of water.

And yes as far as I know the location is the same. The directions are somewhere on page 1 or 2 of this thread I think.

I'll repost directions the day before. I'll be returning to the same location the following Sunday with a friend from PA who is unable to join us on Saturday. Anyone staying over is welcome to join us.

800-224-8455; they're less than 1/2 mile south of Alhambra and on the sand. The villas are $95 ($460/week) and the efficiencies are $65 ($200/week). All have kitchenettes.

We're going to go down Friday night and leave Monday morning. Venice looks like a nice place to stay a couple of days.

About the same distance north but not on the sand are the Gulf Tides Motel (941) 484-9709 and the Inn at the Beach (941) 484-8471. Up the coast is the Best Western Sandbar, but I don't know if we would stay that far away from Alhambra (a whole 0.6 miles!).

At least now I know the Margarita buckets will stay frozen!

Ok I can't decide whether to crash in Venice on Saturday night or not. I guess it depends on whether I can find some folks to get a room with...anyone looking for a roommate for the weekend. Maybe staying where MikeJacobs is crashing so we can be close to the Margaritas and the beach.

Hey i have a truck so i can also make runs. Was wondering how many tanks should i bring i have five of them... And what about food?? i am not sure if i will be getting a room or not i would like to stay and dive sunday also. So if nothing else my dullay is big enough to sleep in lol...
