USS Oriskany update

According to local sources, the Navy has delivered the long awaited risk assessment model to the EPA. The EPA will be reviewing the proposal, and will either approve it as submitted, or reject it with additional info needed. I have been told that we should know something after the first week in August.

It's nice to know that things are at least trying to move forward. I can't express strongly enough how badly we need this project completed. Economic recovery has been slow, and has been further hampered by this year's storms.

My local news site, or maybe it was cnn.com, had a similar article on the Oriksany. One thing I noticed was that they mentioned the sinking was tentively scheduled for May 2006 and that was to be sunk in 212 ft of water.

I thought it was going to be available to recreational divers, or will that be a 212 foot bottom with the flight deck being at like 80 feet?

There's a whole slew of threads on the oriskany where the profile is discussed. At the bottom of threads [like this one] is a quick subject match. I perused those real quick before I went about searching.... and sure enough, in the first one:

Further searching will find more discussions as to the 'why'... but suffice it to say having it run over by a tanker wouldn't do too well for it or the tanker.
