Squalus,
Keep up the good fight.....There are those of us that not only support you, but also the mission. My wife will be going back again in Jan.
I like to hear the "good" we are doing firsthand, since so many don't get to hear it here at home due to media bias....
prayers, bud, prayers..........Jimbo

Squalus,
My son is heading to Iraq this summer, and I am wondering if there is anything you think I should buy him that the Army won't provide? He is supposed to be a SAW gunner doing convoy duty.

EFP's are the worst thing that one can encounter here, will totally ruin your day. I was thinking of posting our mailing addy here but will PM it to anyone who wants to send some little rays of sunshine for our cloudiest of days. We are making a dent in the insurgency here, just need to get the Iranians that are here out of here. To date we have confiscated alot of arms and explossives since our arrival. We are about to put a new generator in the water treatment plant so, the areas around here will have running water and the sewers will be cleaned out. Pending approval of photo's(S2 approval) I will post what the towns look like on here.

There isn't much that they do not supply somebody coming here. I wish they could find a way to make our IBA's cooler. Wearing close to 55 lbs of plating and kevlar vests are not cool in the sun can be unbearable. Ask him what he thinks he needs or wants, we have totally different jobs in comparrison.

Ditto, and like the others I won't be posting all the time either but I am watching and thank you so very much.

This past weekend during the commo black out, we were heading out to go to one of our combat outposts in the city. While cruising around minding our own business, trying to make it without getting hit by the roadside suprises that they leave us. There was a loud whoosh with a bang and a cloud of dust next to our vehicle as we traveled down the road. The five of us sat there for about a second and thought about life (at least I did, the others probably were checking thier pants), our gunner yells out hey we were just shot at or an IED just went off. To our demise a vehicle coming out of the "green zone" (normally the peaceful place), one of the people in there fired an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) at our vehicle. Luckily his aim was high and just skidded across our backside then hit the road next to my window. So being the soldiers that we are we start chasing these guys, knowing that soon we would catch them they call ahead for help. We then run into a hasty ambush, where yet again they miss the lead vehicle with an RPG and decide to shoot at us with SAF (Small Arms Fire). We engage them with our 50's and 7.62 MG's and what a sight it was, could've thought it was the 4th of July. We have had numerous engagements from their mosques (places of worship) but we hold back due to the negative press that we would recieve if we shoot at them, we don't even enter them to search as well. We wait until the Iraqi Police(IP) show up and they have to go in and search the place. Unfortunately, some of the IP's are not trustworthy and work for the insurgency that we are trying to evict out of this country.

Just like to say, Thank you for Serving.

Is there any items we can send over as CARE packages for you, your unit, and for the non-combatant Iraqis?

Say for the kids and such?

If so, I'm sure this board can get some boxes off to you, we would just need your Mil address.

The children here love soccer balls, they however do not like peppermint or mint tasting things. Soldiers, have no objections to anything except the following; liver, brussell sprouts and spinach. Seriously please do not send adult orientated reading material (it offends the local nationals), alcohol or firearms.
