does any one know if the dive operators in the Caribbean typically use aluminum or steel tanks?

In my experience, AL80s.

in my experience primarily Al80's with some shops carrying a few Al72's... aluminum all the same

As said almost all use Al80s some will have Al63s. All will be yoke valves. Anything else will be an exception.

This matches my experience. All use al80s and a few have a few al63s.

You can get AL 100's at Scuba Club in Cozumel for an extra $5.00
