I always enjoy going to locations and the first thing you see as you exit the plane is smiling faces as you join the immigration line, and a warm reception from the locals as you leave the airport. Of course, that is just a start, but what I really want to know from the members is where are some of the places you've been that have such friendly people?

Get out of the airport before you judge.

Caribbean?

North end of Tobago. The out islands (past Nassau/Grand Bahama) of the Bahamas. Grenada, the Northern 7/8ths of it.

Fiji and French Polynesia were among my favorites in this respect, but I've found nice, friendly people almost everywhere I've traveled.

Bali

Grenada or Anguilla

he he...what's in the lower 1/8th?

In my mind, no place compares with Fiji. Upon arrival, I was greated with locals saying "BULA!" where ever I went. Also, in driving from the airport to the resort, every single person on the side of the road - without exception - was waving and saying bula. What is even more remarkable is that Fiji is not a "tip" culture so they weren't expecting anything except maybe a wave and smile back - which they always got. Hard to be in a bad mood in Fiji.

I've never experienced anything like it -- and am pretty well traveled.
