really disheartening to hear about stuff like this happening ... and by divers no less

we are better than that ... as fisheater said, we rely on others to watch our backs, doing the right thing, even coming to our aid if need be

Yeah, gotta hate those visitors. ;)

I think you misread the intent of my comment. Anyone who dives Casino Point with frequency should know that I look forward to and welcome mainland divers to our island. I spend hours down there each weekend even if I'm not diving those days. My comment was only meant to express relief that it probably wasn't a local that did it since so few here dive. Locals have certainly been implicated in some thefts at the park (topside), so I was glad this probably wasn't one of them.

After reading this I know now to tag all rolls of string and any slate of my per-planned dive plan of ownership and purpose of training those getting there navigation skills learned.
I am so sorry to those who lost there dive navigation gear as I see this North of the step entry while diving the park on the second weekend of the month to remove algae from the walls of the monument and checking the plague using a soft nylon hand brush to clear the lettering of only algae and not to harm the Ions or lettering. This Nitrox dive is normally 33'-35' with a 30 min stop a 120 Cu.Ft. bottle at the plaque,
During my accent back in the current toward the steps I have seen the layout of spools, allot of stones stacked as markers as well. Over the 100+ dives in 45 years I can say most all divers respect others gear laid out for a night dive as I do prior a check out night dive navigation course for others. Thanks for alerting those of us who use the park for this purpose. [..]j
