they are both good regs, but here are some points left out about the zeagles

the older zeagles ( pre 2000 i think but it could go as far as 2004 ) regs were made by apex. so you know they have the same performance.

the new ZX reg from zeagle does have a smaller exhaust T on it that might cause you to get more bubbles in the face, but that is not a problem. take a T off an older second stage and put it on the new reg. it fits. my dad did it with his older FH6 second stage to the new FH7

all in all they are both very good performing regs, and you cant go wrong chosing either one. i dont know what the apex reg have for ports on the versions you are looking at, but the FH7 has 2 high and 5 low. this makes for great hose routing IMO.

which ever one you choose i hope you like it. good luck in your search

I have Tek3's, FSR, FSTs, DSTs & XTX, ATX & TX 50/100/200s

Uh, I guess I like Apeks :)

If they're good enough to take John Bennet to 300m they're good enough for me

I have the DSV ZX and I am happy with it. When I bought mine I was looking at getting the FH7 but my LDS told me they were just about the same reg and that I wouldnt notice the differance unless I was diving well past 130 feet. I am happy with my Zeagle.

As others have pointed out Zeagle is a US company that makes their regs in the US, sell their rebuild kits to the general public online, don't subscribe to price fixing, have a stellar service reputation and can be found for a great deal if you look around. Zeagle Express still has the Flathead VI for $360 I believe. While not a cutting edge reg you are getting an environmentally sealed reg that breathes about as good as it gets and simply put will last a long time.

The only small downside compared to some companies is the annual rebuild by a qualified service tech must be maintained to keep the free parts warranty but I don't really consider it to be a significant issue.

I actually think most companies that do the "Free Parts For Life Warranty" require the annual service (or at least inspection) to keep the warranty intact.

I've read Scubapro will let you "reactivate" your warranty after a lapse, but you do need to pay for parts at time of service, then all is good for the following year....

There have been lots of discussions about the pros and cons of the warranties. The nice thing about Zeagle/HOG/Dive Rite is that the rebuild kits are openly available and reasonably priced, so you can go the DIY route without too much stress.

Best wishes.

I decided to go with a Zeagle over an apeks. The LDS that carries both said that both companies products were pretty much equall in qality and performance. IMO apeks had the advantage of an interchangable exhaust T and better stock mouthpiece than the Zeagles. The zeagle ZX 2nd satge's T was about the same as Apex's XTX100's larger T. Zeagle's reputation, a quick reply to an email question by their rep Jim Fox, their willingness to sell parts and being a US based company tiped the scales to Zeagle. I prefered the miflex stock hose and black colored 1st stage on the flathead 7 but wasn't as thrilled by it's smaller exhaust T. Having never used a reg with a swivel turret 1St stage I wasn't sure if there was any reason to go with the 50-D as a miflex hose would seem to provide better comfort. Using the same ZX 2nd stage, the DS-V losses out to the flathead 6 due to the DS-V costing about a $100 more and the Flathead 6 having slightly better breathing machine scores. So in conclusion; the Flathead 6 is in the bag with a wider exhaust than I would have had with a flathead 7. The mouthpiece has allready been replaced, and a miflex hose is on order. I was able to purchase at a LDS at a price that was very competitive with Zeagle express. I ended up spending less for the Zeagle than I spent on the triton 10+ years ago. :D :D:D Thanks go out to everyone for their input.:cool2:

Zeagle does this as well, "ScottZeagle" stated it recently on the Zeagle forum. If you lapse, you pay for the parts, and that "renews" the free parts for yearly service part of the warranty.

Zeagle express also has the trade in deal on all of them

Zeagle Express Trade In Program Envoy Trade In Envoy Deluxe Trade In The Flathead-XP Trade-in ZX/ Flathead-VI Trade In ZX/ 50-D Trade-in

I don't know if this is their deal or all dealers do it.

I had never considered doing my own service when I used the Poseidon. I may look into doing my own repairs in the future. For now I plan on lettin the LDS handel it for about $60 in labor and free parts, as compared to doing it myself and spending about half that much on buying the parts. But it is nice to know that the option is there.
