Either a Dive Rite XT or a Deep 6 Expedition would work just as well as any Apeks, would be cheaper and would also keep you away from a brand with questionable longevity. I own both of them and they are excellent regulators. Both are popular with cold water divers as well and would perform without issue in Monterey, Seattle, the Great Lakes or even under ice.

If you like the AL/Apeks comfobite mouthpieces, which I do, you can easily swap the mouthpieces. That is what I've done on both my DR XT and Deep 6 Expedition.
Thank you! Will most definitely be taking a look into these.

I've got three MTX-RC and haven't had any trouble getting them. I realize your trying to stay loyal to LDS, but they are here you just gotta go where they are. Service kits have not been an issue for me. Parts are hit or miss it depends on the part. I love Apeks I get the knee jerk reaction during this financial crisis, but I don't see them disappearing.

a 40% discount is hard to refuse.
I agree hard to refuse but not hard to believe
40% is the trade price that is the price your LDS dive shop buys it for from the Distributor/Manufacturer.
Similar situation at the moment with Poseidon also with retailers giving them away at the 40% discount cost price.

Put another way its a brand dump by the dive shops of a terminal product and at the moment its at a no profit but its at no loss item to the the dive shop Better that I guess than a real loss.

To the dive shop selling to you at this 40% off the controlled sales retail price under normal circumstances would in effect break the trade agreement with the supplier. No way out of this its a terminal decline.
Aqualung Apex now Poseidon will shortly follow.

And to the retail scuba punter 40% off an already inflated price is the same price the dive shop pays.
Maybe buy in a few spares kits and learn how to service. That or buy American.

Best advise I would give is sell them now while you can.

Now get this last week another director was terminated at Apeks Marine
Mark Rosser this time he packed the empty cardboard box on his desk with his personal stuff
cuddly toy and a few pencils and walked the plank 14th May 2025.
Personally I think its the best thing to happen to him as no one wants to work in Blackburn
Jobs going at Head Sports if your a snow ski fan I here.

Apex have just one caretaker director left and his job is to turn the lights out lock the doors and let the cat out. I dont know what will happen to the fish but hopefully they will find a better home back with the rental firm rather than being flushed down the drain with the company.

Mark started with the company as a director on the 4th March 2024 and gone by 15th May 2025
Ive had cheese that has lasted longer.

I disagree as the pricing differential has been there for a while and is similar for Scubapro. You don’t get the “parts for life” which is a marketing program but that has limited value to me. Buying in Germany has provided me with significant savings, my LDS gets enough of my money from other purchases. The issue with the scuba industry seems to be shrinking customer base, unless they can figure out how to provide lower price point gear and training to the new recruits, it probably won’t change much.
