and I know my 3/2 wetsuit ain't gonna cut it. So, will a 7mm full w/hood be enough? Too much? How neoprene do you guys recommend wearing?
Thanks!

I did 6 dives last year in Lake Huron with a 7mm full, and a 7mm shorty over it... by the 3rd dive I was Cold.

Can probably get by if your only doing a dive or two and keeping them short (say 15-20min.).

I found out last year that Great Lakes diving is definately Dry Suit diving. I don' think it gets much warmer than the low 40's at depth.

Drysuit all the way !!!

BTW, we have the Prins Willem V in our simulator .... so You can dive her in your PJs :D

Alpena, has numerous wrecks in the 40 foot range which is doable in a wetsuit. I dove the Montana in the 70 foot range in a 7mil semi-dry wetsuit, and it wasn't bad. You can spend a couple days diving the shallow wrecks here.

Great Lakes are the best!
if you dive wet, I did and many others still do,I do still dive wet later summer with my son on near shore sites, waters can be much warmer if winds cooperate!
7mm,hood,gloves, warm water prior after dive all can help and limit bottom time!
Dry suits open the season up well year round, and allow deep dives were bottom temps usual do not change much high 30's-low 40's year round,
Enjoy!

2 piece 7mm suit does just fine.

In cold weather when you can't get warm between dives, then a dry suit can help. But, not many boats going out on the lakes that time of the year . . . . .

I dive the big lake in a Pinnacle 5/4 Fusion with a 3mm hooded vest. The trick is to flood the wetsuit with warm water before the dive. When the water gets below 45* it is not much fun.

You'll be surprised at how much you can do with a 7mm. I did four years worth of Lake Huron with a 5mm.

You might just rent a suit rather than dropping the $$$$$ for something you may not use that often.

I will see about getting a 7mm farmer john and jacket and try some of the shallower dives first. Heck, even if that ain't enough up there I can still use it here.
Thanks!
