From a post earlier, it sounds like they will not be able to drive a truck up to the boat dock location and load directly. If they have to wheel tanks a long distance that is what I perceived as a huge negative with this new location.

Jeez again with the long way. Maybe Meri-d will deliver them on a cart for those that don't use that 'special air.'

Thank for the very interesting post. We've been watching this for the past few years, and wondered what happened.

Yes again with that comment. Perhaps designing facilities to make things easier and faster (which can mean less labor intensive) does not matter to you but it should.

After a few days, When HOTEL El Presidente takes over the old Caleta (which is part of the deal), there will be no more loading IN OLD CALETA. No gloating here.

That's pretty normal for most marinas, typically you have to load boats via hand trucks/carts, pretty rare to be able to drive a vehicle up to a boat. Doesn't mean they had to make this one typical though.

So, as best as I follow this story is Fonatur screwed up the design by the numbers and never intended to have working boats (Dive, Snorkel, Fishing ect) in their marina. It seems it was designed exclusively for yachts and pleasure boats but when they had completely botched the job and needed access to the existing Caleta's entrance, in steps the government to make a gift of the existing Caleta's to Inter-Contenital hotels and the actual small businesses that support the islands economy got burned. This looks sleazy enough to be Chicago or New Orleans.

Well, I am concerned with the environment. Think of all the carbon output if the trucks had to back up and down each of the piers. And less labor intensive? So you want to deny people jobs? Sad, really....

Next you will want a machine to make sexy coffee.....

Marina is not functional yet per contract signed by over 100 boat owners in 2010 when this all started - so until it is - they are not in compliance with the contract and we cannot be forced to move - which is why there are still many many still operating from "old caleta."

APIQroo has not yet produced a valid document showing that they have the concession for the new marina or that they have an agreement with FONATUR.

Or Mexico

Look this is as crazy as any stuff gets in Mexico, but for us to get rid of the boat wrecking mess in the old Caleta is a God Send. We work really hard to keep our boats clean and respectable but the jostling in the old Caleta made that near impossible. Fix up a boat with new paint and cosmetics then find it the next day all beat up from the trash boats surrounding…we won't miss that at all. There seems to be many "hangers on" in the old Caleta but I can't believe that they will be able to stay without paying slip rent or being thrown out.
