TostitoBandito:
Those numbers sound about right. The degree to which Jews are a minority among religions is somewhat surprising.

Maybe you forgot 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust.

Even if the Holocaust didnt happen, and their were even 10 million more Jews, it wouldnt affect the ratio that significantly...
Instead of 1 out of 100, it might be 3 out of 100. Still, a minority...

Although that is a lot of Jews, a terrible crime, its still only around 0.1% of the total world population (just over 6 billion when i last heard), it wouldnt make a dent in the village analogy.

You don't think they would have reproduced, huh?

A general discussion of religion, pro or con will not be allowed in this thread. Let's get and keep the discussion back onto the topic.

So far I haven't pulled the posts that have strayed but I will if necessary and there will be no PM of explanation and warning not to do it again.

Consider this your explanation and warning.

Uncle Pug:
Is there a Biblical emphasis that might be missed in focusing too intently on the physical sufferings of Jesus?

As with most things, context brings better understanding. I think that the context needs to be supplied. I think that reading the first five books of the New Testament could provide that context.

I'm wondering what Uncle Pug's answer is to his own question. But since he just threw out the question, I'll give you my two cents worth. The movie is gory and absolutely disturbing (I just wanted it to be over during most of it), and yes, the violence did take the focus away from the intended (I think based on the interviews I've seen of Mel Gibson) message of the movie. However, the flip side of this is that lots of us Christians tend to romanticize the cross. The horror of it escapes us and that leaves a gap in our understanding and appreciation for what we believe God and Jesus did for us.

As for the subtitles, I would've prefered English being spoken, but it did add to the experience. My husband loved that part.

I just got back from seeing the movie. Not as good as I expected it to be with all the hype. Oh well.

I don't want to get too deep into my religion or Pug might pull my post.

I'll just say this, I believe Jesus is about Love. I wish the movie would have shown more the life of Jesus when he walked the earth, then the violence of his death.

But, I guess violence sells.. and love doesn't..? anyway only my take on it..
Mel Gibbson's Hollywood..version was a disappointment.
