We saw the movie last night in a very packed and very quiet theatre. As I had heard and had seen reports on this movie, it was truly moving and gripping unlike any other movie about Jesus I had seen before. I occasionally scanned the quiet theatre during the film as I could hear whimpering. I saw many crying both men and women which was a testament to the power of this movie. Irregardless of what the mainstream media and the anti Christian pundits in the media have to say about the movie or Mel Gibson, hats off to Mel Gibson who is a big Hollywood icon for going ahead and doing this movie and not being afraid to go against the big Hollywood establishment. His convictions must be deep to have shelled out $25 million of his own money and take a risk on doing this movie. After watching a weeks worth of Mel bashing on TV over this movie I was very happy to see that his movie is doing great. I remember thinking during the movie after Jesus had said to his apostles that they too will be persecuted because of their belief in him, that this must be the persecution that Mel is currently going through on TV and radio.

I have also seen on TV and a couple of posts here about the message not being more about love. This sort of puzzles me for two reasons. One, wasn’t that what the crucifixion was about??? And two, this movie was not about the life of Jesus and a lot of touchy feel good messages. This movie as Mel Gibson has continuously stated is the last 12 hours of Jesus’ life, which was suffering and that is what he wanted to focus on and not the rest. He wanted people to feel the suffering not just to know it and Mel did just that. Mega thumbs up to Mel for doing this movie, it is nice to see one guy go against the establishment and win.

You're going to compare the persecution of Jesus/ or his apostles with the persecution to Mel Gibson?

Like I said, I don't want to get in a fight here.. so I'm backing out of this thread.

Let me say once again before I go.. Of course I think the sacrifice Jesus made on the the cross was all love. I personally don't think it needed to be so over done and showed him being beaten to a pulp.
Maybe that part just hurt seeing so much..

I want to see it, but not because of its links to Christianity - its not a matter of faith to me in going, but rather one of evaluating its artistic merit as a film.

What does amaze me is how violently the "establishment" has reacted to Mel making this movie. And I do mean violently.

The Elites in Hollywood have threatened to blackball him over it, for example. Of course it'll go nowhere, because Mel is one of the hottest tickets out there, and so that's all armwaving, but there you have it.

He put a shizload of his own money on the line making this film, as nobody else wanted to TOUCH it.

Contrast that with "The Last Temptation of Christ", which, by the way, I own on 12" Laser. I consider that to be an excellent film on the merits. It also drew lots of protests and even threats of violence, but funny - the Hollywood establishment had no problem with it at all.

Hnmmmmm.....

I think I was editing it, as you were replying..sorry.

And yes, it was the Passover hence Mary asking the question although I must have missed that was a sedar going on..anyway, the day after and it still hurts..
