We saw the movie last night in a very packed and very quiet theatre. As I had heard and had seen reports on this movie, it was truly moving and gripping unlike any other movie about Jesus I had seen before. I occasionally scanned the quiet theatre during the film as I could hear whimpering. I saw many crying both men and women which was a testament to the power of this movie. Irregardless of what the mainstream media and the anti Christian pundits in the media have to say about the movie or Mel Gibson, hats off to Mel Gibson who is a big Hollywood icon for going ahead and doing this movie and not being afraid to go against the big Hollywood establishment. His convictions must be deep to have shelled out $25 million of his own money and take a risk on doing this movie. After watching a weeks worth of Mel bashing on TV over this movie I was very happy to see that his movie is doing great. I remember thinking during the movie after Jesus had said to his apostles that they too will be persecuted because of their belief in him, that this must be the persecution that Mel is currently going through on TV and radio.
I have also seen on TV and a couple of posts here about the message not being more about love. This sort of puzzles me for two reasons. One, wasnt that what the crucifixion was about??? And two, this movie was not about the life of Jesus and a lot of touchy feel good messages. This movie as Mel Gibson has continuously stated is the last 12 hours of Jesus life, which was suffering and that is what he wanted to focus on and not the rest. He wanted people to feel the suffering not just to know it and Mel did just that. Mega thumbs up to Mel for doing this movie, it is nice to see one guy go against the establishment and win.
