Walter:
I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard it isn't historically accurate.

You will have to go see it, Walter, and read the New Testament, if you want to discuss this credibly. Otherwise you would just remain a hear-say secondary or tertiary source, n'est pas? You have got $10 bucks that you can spare, don't you?

Isn't that what the DIR divers always say too? Not to criticize DIR until you have taken a DIRF class? That is why I have taken their advice, and stopped criticizing DIR, because there is no way I am ever planning to take a DIRF class. I have already invested too much money (about $10,000) in my tech gear to start over now, with DIR. That is also why I am not interested in rebreathers.

You misread me. I'm just saying to watch it with care. I don't know if it's accurate or not. I do know biblical scholars have raised issues with its historical accuracy. Don't assume the movie accurately shows what happened.

Most movies are not "accurate" they are "embellished" as Pete points out.

I am looking forward to seeing the embellishment that Mel Gibson conceived in the Garden of Gethsemane scene in the confrontation between Christ and Lucifer.

It is food for thought, even though it is not necessarily accurate.

Even our translations of the Bible and the Torah are not necessarily "accurate." But most of us can certainly live with that.

I do agree with you, about watching it with care. That is why my wife and I will carefully discuss the movie afterwards. She is somewhat of a Biblical scholar herself, and she loves to discuss religion.

Hey Ron,

of course the scarcity of eyewitness accounts might be that the disciples were "running for the hills" after the arrest. Even the "Rock" denied him and left.

But - realize I am probably about the LEAST qualified person in this thread to interpret biblical teachings. My statement about wording came from recent observations. So.....
UWSojourner:
Examples please.
New International and King James use: "arguements" -
1. A discussion in which disagreement is expressed; a debate.
2. A quarrel; a dispute.
3. A course of reasoning aimed at demonstrating truth or falsehood
4. A fact or statement put forth as proof or evidence; a reason

New American Standard uses: "speculation"
1. Contemplation or consideration of a subject; meditation.
2. A conclusion, opinion, or theory reached by conjecture.
3. Reasoning based on inconclusive evidence; conjecture or supposition.

In context (sort of): 2 Corinthians 4,5:
New International: The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God...

New King James: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God...

New American Standard: for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God...

I'm going Sunday!! Let you all know what I think (if anyone cares by then!!) I'm very ignorant when it comes to the bible, so I won't be able to tell you if it's accurate or not...besides, I wasn't even there when it happened!
