I'm thinking about seeing it. Sounds like it wasn't hard to follow even though it's in Latin with English sub titles?

No, its not bad. Its actually cool to hear them talk in a language that is so old. Just alot of reading...

OK I'll have to bring my glasses then. Thx.

NetDoc:
We had NDR threads on the "Return of the King" and I think this one had a bigger first day. As long as it does not devolve into to a religious debate (My God's bigger than your God) then it can stay. But you can be sure that we will be watching for that and will be splitting off inappropriate behaviour as we see it arise.

BTW, I hope to be seeing it tonight with my church. Depends on how the wife feels when she wakes up.

You are attending the movie with your church yet you do not want to
enter into a "religious debate" regarding the movie and I assume its
central character. Why not? What church do you attend? What are its
beliefs? What do you believe about JC?

The beauty of Christianity is that "religiousity", "ritual" and "following rules" was superceded by a RELATIONSHIP with God through His Son Jesus Christ. True, He makes some folks uncomfortable with His claim that He is the only way and that He is God but that's only because they want to chose their
OWN path to Heaven.

Lastly, if I am banned from this board for my comments I consider it a very
tiny price to pay for speaking the truth.

He IS risen !!!

I think NetDoc just meant this forum was not created for religious debate (except in the DIR forum :54: ). There is a place for everything.

Was wondering ... what age of children would you guys allow to see it? I know "every kid is different, etc, etc.", but give me some ballparks.

I'm going to see it tonight. It's actually in Aramaic, Latin and Hebrew.

Wow! Thanks Ken. Sounds like a master piece made by Mel Gibbson.
I have liked most of his movies, BraveHeart being my favorite so far..

I was hoping for Aramaic... which was Jesus' native tongue. After that Hebrew and Greek would be good (most of what he and apostles said was originally recorded in Greek), but Latin seems so wrong! I was really looking forward (almost pridefully, unfortunately) to trying to figure out the spoken Greek. The verses really come alive when read in the original language they were written in.

I dont think any child under 14 should see this movie. Very graphic scenes of violence, including alot of "blood" and beating scenes. Keep in mind that there are very emotional, stirring scenes, and I would not be surprised if some children (younger) would be emotionally shaken from seeing this. Like I said before, during some parts of this movie, there were very few people who were NOT crying.

right, but i think Mel was going for historical accuracy. Latin was the
official language of the realm, so all official business would have been conducted in Latin. Arameic was the language the people spoke, so
that's what the "street" would have spoken.

btw, since Aramaic was not a written language, do we have any record
of what it sounded like? is there a comparable language spoken today?

curious
