WT and Wally ... I had a similar experience. I did AOW, Nitrox and PPB from one of the shops in Indy (that will go un-named). Very, very poor classes. I will NOT take another class from them. I will be doing rescue and probably 2-4 more specialties next year and I'm shopping around long and hard to make sure the instructors will be good. I'll travel out of state if I have to. I'm sick of wasting my money just to get a card. I want instruction to help me become a better diver, not to get a stupid card.

Oh~~~ If then, you can buddy up with Wally for the rescue class next Spring. :D :)

And I already PM'd him about doing this along with your recommended shop and instructor.

jbd,

I don't think you got what we said. Based on my AOW expereince, if my LDS could cover 10% of what you are doing on your AOW class, I wouldn't be pissed off. My AOW dives were 16 min or 17 min. I am wondering what you can teach within 16 or 17 min. period. I was asked to go to FL to complete 60ft deep diving. LOL~~
There is no excuse, IMO, for an AOW dive to be only 16 to 17 minutes long other than the NDL's which would most likely be related to the deep dive. Who planned the dives:confused: Seriously, who planned the dives?

I just checked my log book and John has had one short dive which was his light salvage dive. I have 21 minutes logged on that dive. It was a very mission specific dive though. Other than that his shortest dive was the re-do of the navigation dive and I have 43 minutes for that. The other dives have been either just a minute or two under 1 hour or a few minutes over 1 hour. All told we have over 9 hours UW and still have to do the deep dive. John has had homework/research to do in addition to the time we have spent talking about the various topics related to this course.

Just looking over the logbook and thinking back on this course, I have had a lot fun.

I'd like to add that this has been spread over several days.(four I think, I'd have to look at my log book and it's not here right now) These have been full days also, around 6 hrs or more. Although some time has been spent socializing, a whole lot of it was instruction. This has been a very thorough class and I have learned tons! More than I could have ever hoped for. :D

I've had allot of fun as well, definately a great learning experience!

I picked the wrong instructor. Two days, totally probably 12 hours at the most and most of it on land. Read the book and do the quiz at the back. The instructor didn't even get in the water with us on the navigation. Wasn't an issue for me since I nailed all but one and it was only off by a couple cycles...lost count. I wanted to do search and recovery and was told that it was too involved for a group that big. But I could go along with another class that was going to do it. They haven't done it yet after a year. I wanted to do dry suit and they didn't tell me that I needed pool time first. Didn't make a difference since they didn't have a suit with seals on it anyway. The story just gets worse. Glad to hear that you are having fun and learning JP. I might need some help when I come down the 28th so you are the man. :D

crpntr133--have you got a dry suit? Do you still want to do search and recovery and a light salvage dive? We can make that happen.

I do have a dry suit. I don't have a lot of dives with it but am pretty comfortable. I have done a lot of asking around and reading but I can always use a few more tips. I don't need the card just the knowledge. As for the search and recovery, the main thing that I can think of is how to shoot a bag. I am sure there is more. I wouldn't mind doing both if time would allow.

LDS owner, instructor! He was on the ground all the times. I just dove with the DM candidate. That's it..... LOL~~~~

We can put something together much better. Things should start settling down with me schedule wise although I will be changing job location and schedule in the next week or so. The good thing is I won't have to work every Saturday any more.

Probably no need to completely re-do the AOW but we can pick some things to focus on and work on that info/skill set.
