We plan to dive the bridge Thursday and Friday. On Friday a bunch of family will be there.
We went Tuesday--did you make it? There were about the fewest divers I've seen on a nice weather day. A family snorkeling as we got out said they and a diver had seen a Manatee right up by the west entry/exit.[/QUOTE

Hi Jim,
Was out at the beach by palm beach shores today and a cow and calf were hanging out in about 8 to 10 feet of water in front of the tall condo buildings for at least 2 hours...awesome

Newbie question: How many minutes before scheduled high tide do you try and get in the water for this dive?

We got in yesterday about 45 minutes before hi tide. For most folks a half hour to an hour is about right. We are sometimes late getting there and maybe get in about hi tide time--the dive is still enjoyable. It seems like no matter how early we get there, someone is already flying their dive flag--normally out around the boat morrings just south of the park and bridges as the current under the bridges can be pretty swift early and late.

I haven't been able to upload pictures for a while, but the system is working again so I've posted some from my BHB dive on July 17, 2010. I'm posting these not because they are great photos, but because they are unusal, at least to me.

This appears to be a Southern Puffer. Are these common here? I've seen the checkered puffers, and this was the same size and shape but different coloring. I've never noticed one before. They aren't in the Humann book so I had to use my Fishes of the Caribbean CD-Rom to ID it.

This is a northern stargazer that I saw swimming free. I followed it around for a while. It would bury itself, then come out of the sand and swim around for a while before burying itself again. Several wrasses were following it. At one point it swam right past tibenmiami and the other nudi hunters, but I don't think they saw it because they were searching so intently. I got some good video of it swimming that I'll post eventually.

This is a polkadot batfish. I've never seen one this color before. It really was this bright red.

Lastly, I don't know what this is. Can anyone ID it? It looked like some kind of urchin. I turned it over and it was definately alive.

All in all, another great day at BHB. You never know what you'll see!

Some cool finds there, Paul!

I'll be there in the morning, lookin' forward to it!

Maybe the urchin is a sea biscuit? It's a guess at best.
