This is a polkadot batfish. I've never seen one this color before. It really was this bright red.

I have seen a similar polka dot batfish with big red patches too. Nice find and thanks for posting the shots!
 
now that the gallery is back up and going, I'll share a few interesting things I've seen at the bridge recently: the shots are not all that great but the subjects are neat. The first is a group of mantis shrimp: I've seen quite a few of them lately: most are south of the west span in the sandy area, but one was under the fising pier

This last shot is not all that great but interesting in that it is a mantis shrimp, down in its hole, being illuminated by a dive light. Sort of eerie looking: like something out of Alien

last: finally saw a sea goddess: it was very interesting to watch it crawl across the sea floor for 5 minutes or so. All of the fish seemed to ignore it making me wonder if these things are, in fact, poisonous

this shrimp is not a great shot, but fascinating subject: by the way, does anyone know what it is?? I watched it on some sea grass/weeds for about 5 minutes before it finally ducked under the weeds.
