We had a nice dive today at the bridge, saw an Eagle Ray again, too far for a nice pic; but shot one anyway. I saw one in the same spot a couple of weeks ago. It was about the same size as well. Could it be the same ray. It was out by the boat channel just south of the high bridge.

I wish I had seen them. Where were they? I had a CLOSE encounter with a Manatee but my camera was on Macro

What Jim politely didn't add is they were -the nudis that is- having group S_x!
The headshield is a beaut & they have 2 colors & there were all sizes out there south of the bridge. Their proper name is: Chelidonura hirundinina.

How about mid-August? Donna and I are going to be in FL Aug 7 - 22. We will be busy, so I can't say for sure if I can be there, but I will surely try.

Was it this Hermit? It was south of the bridge most of the way to the west "wall".

And the first dive with my new Nauticam 550D camera system. I previously have been using a G10/Fix camera system. For the bridge dive I went with the Canon 60mm macro. I can see right away that a 100mm macro lens/port will be the 'next' UW lens I acquire.
I arrived early (10:45AM) so parking was plentiful. I got to meet numerous friendly drunk ....people as I was getting my dive/camera equipment setup down by the water. What's the politically correct term these days for 'bum'?
The dive was fairly uneventful (I only got my floatie flag stuck on a bridge piling once
) and the dive lasted for about 1 hour 40 minutes. Vis was pretty good except for one instance where I was patiently setting up a shot when all of a sudden a large cloud of silt came wafting by (There were 4 divers upcurrent effectively walking across the bottom in 6 feet of water).
I didn't get any great shots but it was a lot of fun putting the new camera through its paces. I was hoping to see some nudis, but all I saw were lots and lots of fireworms. I think it's the first "red tipped fireworm" I've gotten a photo of. I'll definitely be back hopefully on a regular basis.
