So it still seems to me that if they are going to test, that everybody should be held to the same standards.
You and Don are both right. :)

The Internet lets people Search or click on provided links and read up on things themselves. But they can use that to dial in to credible expert discussions and advice, or paranoid conspiracy theorists.

People now are often more informed, but not necessarily better informed.
Brilliant! Well said.

Unfortunately many seem to think that even a simple mask isnt needed or that it is too much of a burden for even just plane travel. So for all to be tested to the same standards and while also some still needing a carrot, it probably won't change.

I recall some other countries were willing to waive testing requirements for fully vaccinated individuals, but what "carrot" has the US ever offered?

Same standard?
Antigen or PCR for a start.

Pro and con? Simply human nature to against anything?

No test required if crossing into the US at a land crossing (must be double vaxxed though).

Good point. Being in the center of the country, not one I have experienced, but I can understand how that would be helpful.

What's the reasoning of making air travelers provide a negative test but not land crossers? The news media are confused. A google search showed these as the top two hits...

Travellers face high cost of COVID-19 testing, uncertainty ahead of U.S. land border reopening
