Well for the second year running the IRS has sent me some duff way of filing my tax return. I meet all the qualifications, they sent me the paperwork, i type in my SSN and the little ID number thing and it tells me its incorrect, do it again, same thing, rinse and repeat - still no good. Why have these things on offer if they dont work?? I tried last year with the same system, no luck - nothing has changed except my address (which they printed correctly when they mailed the thing to my house). Last year i e-filed which was nice, quick, easy and free - now it seems you have to download software, have someone do the tax prep etc for you online, not as nice, quick, easy and costs you a fee. I know exactly what i am owed by the IRS, i have no difficult tax returns just an income and interest from my bank account - nothing else, it should be really straightforward, but for some reason these things just arent lined up right or something.

I don't mess with taxes in any way, shape or form - that is what my accountant is for. Sounds simple enough but.....H & R Block maybe?

My taxes are so ridiculously simple i am just shocked that they arent easier to send off. All i want is my refund!!! I have 4 non-personal (money related) lines to fill in, thats all. I went free-file with H&R Block in the end. They told me my refund was exactly the same as i had read off the tables, but i cant telefile or efile without going through someone or other it seems - why have they complicated this system from last year when i did it efile?

When things get more complex i will get my people together, but for something as simple as one income, one person, a tiny bit of bank interest, standard deduction and calculating the difference from what i paid to what i should have paid - what is the complexity there?

That's the problem. Uncle Sam knows that he owes you money and he's trying to keep it.

Easy answer here. Lingering resentment over that whole tea tax thingy.....

And it would have been so much easier if they had been divers, wouldn't it - none of that dressing up in native american (note the uncharacteristic political correctness) garb - just a nice, easy shore dive, climb up, dump tea, and drift dive back home in that tannic water. Kinda like the Santa Fe run at Ginnie. Express your political views for King G and get in a night dive to boot...

And i thought i only got this kind of ribbing on July 4 and a little around turkey day - but no, its the historical event that keeps giving

Finally filed today and i should have my refund in about 8-15 days - i am erring on the optimistic side of that as its early in the tax year, they seem quicker until early april  The only reason i didnt do it yesterday is that for the efile i had to put in my adjusted gross income from 2003 as an identifier/signature - didnt have that old tax form with me at work from last year! Still not impressed with tele-file though

Did you choose the electronic refund option? If so, you should have it in about ten days.

And Simon, you're my favorite limey. :10:

Get someone real sharp to do your taxes and sit back and wait for your check .You never know, you might be missng a few deductions you are not aware of?
