I started to wear socks with my booties and fins after some toe blisters. Use cotton socks in a pinch, but prefer my hydroskin socks from NRS. I use them for kayaking as well. BTW, always stick forms into your booties and fins as they deform over time if stored wrong and cause you rubbing pain. I had to learn the hard way.

I use socks (thin nylon ones) for a different reason... makes getting into the wetsuit and booties an order of magnitude easier.
