FYI Everyone...

Alabama State Troopers announced this morning that they are having another operation of "Take Back our Highways". it's where the troopers send out several patrol cars to "problem speeding areas" and blitz the area with very low tolerences. It started today and will go until Sunday. They get federal grants for overtime and put the max number of troopers they have on the road for this.

The news on the radio this morning said they'd be writing tickets for 1 mph over the speed limit in order to try to reduce speeding.

here's one news story on it. For example in Cullman county, they will have 50 additional state troopers on patrol this weekend. CullmanTimes.com, Cullman, Alabama - Fifty additional state troopers scheduled to blitz county
So for anyone driving through Alabama on the way down, beware that most of the state is now an official speed trap.

1 mile over? They are going to be really really busy! LOL! Well, I will just have to set the cruise control! Hmm maybe I need to invest in a radar detector :mooner:!

I've seen them do this before. They make a public announcement about it and then write a crap load of tickets.

You'll see 5 or 6 state troopers in one stretch of about a mile with every one of them pulling someone over. Other times you'll see them lined up like taxi-cabs-at-the-airport and pull out after people.

Out of that one week period I only saw this "BLITZ" twice though as they work in "wolfpacks" and move around. (and no I didn't get a ticket).

When they did this in August of this past year, the "Take Back our Highways", Alabama state Troopers wrote over 23,000 tickets in a one week period.

11,931 of them were for speeding. FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD. Others were for no seatbelt, no insurance, no drivers license, etc.
