IMO = Quarrys are for bad weather, check out dives, and certs for newbies,ok and a old guy's/ Gal's too!

cookouts/mixers can be had at most marinas-towns,parks! some do need a permit and easy to be had.

New divers should get their ears wet before they venture into the cold -clear-dark waters of the Great Lakes but dudes Great lakes diving is A#1

The reason I suggested Munising is that there are easily done shore dives for the inexperienced. These are Free by the way. The local charter boats offer and option to go to wrecks as deep as 90 fow and that might scare off newbies. BUT, they also offer trips to wrecks like the Manhatten and the Herman Hettler. 15 to 40 foot of water easy beginners dives. Or the Bermuda that lies in a sheltered bay. An intact schooner that sits upright in 25 fow, six feet gets you to the deck. There are parks to meet at like Sand point which makes a great jump off point for some easy shore diving. I think they have grills and stuff too. There is plenty of local hotels, a good selection of local resturants and of course, watering holes. For those who want to take a break from diving, there is a driving tour of waterfalls in the area, a casino fairly close(Christmas Mich) and your with in striking range of some interesting maritime museums. I've been to Munising several times and its a slow paced, relaxed place and a great place to dive no matter you skill level.

I would take any weekend in April, but my vote shouldn't count. Just started a new job and taking time off to travel is dicey. What ever spot is picked should include a campground, becasue that is were the action is when we are not in the water.

Quarry location isn't all that important to me. A plus for Portage is price and that some of the campsites now have electricity! Gilboa has the nice bathrooms / showers near the entrance.

Just an FYI, Portage should have their bathrooms and showers now. The construction was moving along nicely when I was there last August.

Hey Guys,
It looks like we will have another awesome m&g this year. I am really looking forward too it. My vote is to keep it at a quarry. I have not been to Portage yet, but would consider it. But my vote is for Gilboa on any weekend.
I will bring Italian Beef and Gardinar again in the crockpots assuming we will have a power source.
I don't have any camping gear, but would be happy to share any with someone.

Let's make this year one to never forget

P.S. If any of you guys are coming in for OWU, You are welcome to crash at my place if you bring your own sleeping bags. I am about 30 min from Rosemont and easy to find... and Jim, I actually have furniture...lol

Maybe this should be the Midwest Quarry divers forum eh, as you all want to stick to quarry diving. Quarry diving has little in common with the Great Lakes.

Jim ... have you been to a M&G? If not, come to one first and then maybe you'll have a feel for why so many folks feel one of the quarries is the best location. Many of the folks who come also love to wreck dive on the Lakes (most actually), but a wreck diving outing is just not the best forum for accomplishing the goal of the M&G.

Well then, we'll just have to arrange another wreck diving weekend so that I can check out the new furnishings. Sounds like a blast!

You want to kill brain cells or go diving? If you read my previous posts, you can go shore diving and have a blast. I have led new divers while diving vintage double hose reg's myself. You don't have to wreck dive if you don't want to. If you want to park at a camp site in ohio and drink and eat, heck, go for it. In most circles thats called camping, not diving. If you want to go diving however, try another venue. If you want to be a Great Lakes diver, well then, dive the Great lakes. The Last I heard, quarries were not considered to be Great Lakes. If your a quarry diver thats just fine. Be proud of it and call yourself what you are. If you only dive quarries you are not a Great Lakes diver. I think thats pretty strait forward. There is a difference.
