I would be acceptable of tax weekend...Anything later than that is too close to Derby time...

Well, Jim and Jennifer both like the 13-15 April weekend, I can go for that also. So, we've got 3 votes for 13-15 April, any counters?

Now, where? Haven't had one at Portage for a while?

Ken

The 6th-8th is Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Cast my one vote for the 20-22nd.

Heres a wild thought. Why don't you have a GREAT LAKES WRECKING CREW meet and greet on a great lake? Not a quarry. What a concept. I would suggest Munising Michigan in august or early September. Then you could dive real wrecks in clear water.

This has been discussed many times in the past and it always get shot down. for several reason. We have a lot of first time divers with us who dont want to hit the big water just as yet. Plus your limited to the diving of if and when the charter boat goes out and with a limited number of divers. The quarries meet and greet people can get in and out of the water with whom they like when ever they so please. But we use this opportunity to meet new dive buddies to plan future dives with charters on the Great lakes.
And thet final reason to have it at the quarries the diving in our meet and greets has basically become a less of an importance then the social and eating has become the number one reason for being their. Actually I was just thinking of not even bringing the dive gear this year.

I will be right back!!!!
we arent right!!!!!
I have to go now I see a rubber hose

OH yeah tax weekend sound good to me again as well.
Hey Ray how the heck are ya long time no hear from
speaking of no hear from anyone heard or seen from DiverBrian lately he hasnt posted on here in months.

At this point either tax weekend (taxes aren't due until Tuesday 4/17 this year) or the 20/21/22 work for me.

Quarry location isn't all that important to me. A plus for Portage is price and that some of the campsites now have electricity! Gilboa has the nice bathrooms / showers near the entrance.

I haven't talked to Brian recently but he submitted a post for me about a Great Lakes shipwreck class I'm taking along with Gary Venet.

(Who plans to make up for all the diving I didn't do in 2006!)

I spoke with with our fearless leader just the other day. Life seems to be treating Brian pretty well. I think he will be chiming in about the Meet & Greet real soon.

I know that we will be discussing location and time as usual. I need to agree with Ted about the quarry convenience for this type of event. If you have never attended a Meet & Greet you don't have an appreciation for what they are intended for, eating and socializing. By far the best thing about Meet & Greet is meeting new people, this will give you the greatest opportunity to meet divers with the same level of experience and allow for the planning of future trips to the Great Lakes.

I am hoping to be able to do more diving myself this year. Last year I had the new baby, surgery and a number of issues at work that limited my diving, so I am hoping to plan at least a couple of charter dives at Meet & Greet.

Now on to more important topics, who is bringing what kind of food? Like Ted said, I may not even bring the dive gear with me this year. If the old wives tale is true and you need to wait an hour after eating I will never be able to get in the water. Just the other night I had a dream about seasoned beef, kielbasa, smoked sausage, tex mex, cookies, cake, other deserts. Of course somebody always brings that campfire delight Samores with the special secret formula.

I can understand your point Jim. However, for a large majority of us, holding the event at a quarry allows those of us still new to the sport to meet new potential dive buddies in a less threatening and more logistically friendly environment. I did my first GL wreck dives last year with Robb (ElectricBear) and loved it. I'm hooked and plan on doing much more of it this year, especially now that I've added a drysuit, HP100 steels and a 30cf pony to my gear collection. The M&G allows those of us who aren't very close to the lakes to meet more folks who we can dive with in the future. I met several folks last year who were gracious enough to dive with me during the season and help me to progress in the sport, especially Dean and Robb who have both been nice enough to dive with me and Robb has even provided a roof over my head! Holding the event actually on one of the lakes would be much tougher logistically.

Now I am totally in favor of putting together more frequent GLWC dive charters. I know most folks post their plans and offer to include any and all takers. I know Ber for one is great about this. That helps us new folks alot as we build our network of potential dive partners.
