speed of shutter release in 1200

got he 1200 and gaining experience with it; but it still seems to take a "long time" for the shot to actually "take" after the shutter button has been pressed; is there a setting i don't know about that cuts the delay between pressing the shutter and taking the pic? missing lots of good shots because subject swims out of frame; thanks
 
The 1200 is pretty slow in focussing. It does better with more light.
 
try to pre focus on something that is at the same distance as the subject would be at.hold button 1/2 way and depress fully to get the shot.most point n shoot cameras work this way..

That works fine if the "other subject" is higher contrast or in better light than the thing you actually want to photograph. If it's in as dim light or poor in contrast as your real subject, it might not help much.
