A couple comments. I string sheepies through the eyes. Never a bite, knock on wood.

Why risk it? I haven't had them take a chunk out of "me" yet, but I've found em clipping themselves to my wetsuits before - string em through the mouth and not a worry.

You can buy your license in person (Walmart or any tackle shop has them, and the store at City Marina) or online. About $32 for annual non-res saltwater fishing. Online license & regs:

Actually, you need a spearfishing specific liscense in AL, costs $6 for AL residents(maybe $7?). You have to pick them up at Marine Fisheries locations, Gulf Shores, Montegomery, and maybe Daphin Island? You can get them by mail also, check this link http://www.flounderwear.com/license.html

The FL saltwater license covers both spearing & line fishing. You priced fresh seafood lately? I don't think $32 per year is much. take a look at the AL fishing regs & cast your eyes on what we charge for a non-res freshwater fishing license.

So called euro guns are arbaletes. When I got rid of my arbalete many years ago, I never imagined that intensive advertising and exaggerated performance claims would facilitate another attempt at market penetration of such ordinary and mundane pieces, eg with their old fashioned screw in rubbers and zinc plated spears, ugh. The phenomenon has some parallels with Riffe and perhaps, others. These guns are creatures of the cyberworld and are either too much or too little gun for purposes of the average user. Their popularity has more to do with image than anything. Part of the problems has to do with their suitability for perceived applications. The Riffe is a blue water gun and only the larger mods are really suitable for a certain class of sport divers although I see that Jay is diversifying to meet this discrepancy. The arbalete is basically a bottom gun for shooting small snappers and bass. A skilled diver who can approach really dumb game like the black marlin could potentially get a piece of one and with careful control of a float line, bring one in. However, credit goes to the technique and the publicity, not the gun.

32 bucks that is sort of steep for just spear fishing privalages...

That would depend on whether you are a good spearfisherman or still needing more practice !!
